Bugger the road spikes, if your driving like a tool & dont stop, the police should be able take you out with a shoulder launched Javelin & end it on the spot. The police cant win, if they let him go & he gets into traffic & kills someone, they lose. In this case they put out spikes , he dies & they lose. Gee moral must be high in the police force (not). If the guy survived he would only get a slap on the wrist anyway.

if they stole my car, their lives wont be worth living. so a BIG pat on the back for the POLICE for doing their JOB.
It is one of the toughest job and prob the most underpaid job there is. yet people always complain about them. Cut some slack for our everyday hero's. They would be the first ones there to help you out in any situation, from a missing wallet to a missing person, to chasing reckless teens in a stolen car. not to mention the sights of seeing dead body's, and messy crime scenes.... investigating and solving crimes, are part of this job. And then there is the media.... only to sell a few newspapers and watch their shows, they don't care if it ruins the lives of these everyday hero's. They are only here to protect and to ensure our safety, they don't make the rules, they enforce the rules. I have seen this first hand, as a result of my DAD been a NSW POLICE officer for the past 18 years...... and YAY for natural selection.

I believe there's now an enquiry about use of spikes. Just hope they dont overreact by deciding not to use spikes anymore.
In this case the spikes did their job and stopped a potential dangerous situation with the speeding car heading toward the population. I have no time for the "bleeding hearts" sympathising with the criminals who didn't get away with it this time. |

On the ABC news tonight they said he lost control avoiding the spikes and hit the tree. Either way I don't care as he made his own choice and must bear responsibilty for his decision. I am glad he didn't take innocent people with him as too often happens.
cheers Bill.

Remember the VICTIM(s) here are the family who have to go WITHOUT a car now, probably already doing it tough and now they have no car. Not the fool banged up in the public hospital at tax payer's expense because HE made the decision to break the law. I dropped 50 cents on the floor at the shops today. A kid about 8 picked it up, when I asked him for it he looked me straight in the eye and said "It's MINE". Now I am 37 years old, 6ft 1" and 95Kgs and this 8 year old wants to argue with me over MY 50 cents. It just wouldn't have happened in our day. His mum made him give it back to me,lol. I hope he got a good talking to. |

Extreme? Maybe.. but if he survives, he gets a smack on the wrist and in 6 months whats he doing again?
Probably driving a stolen car at 170km/h to do his community service. The next time he looses control it wont be a tree. It could be YOUR son or daughter he smashes into. SO bloody oath I hope he dies. Might shake up a few other dickheads on the roads and make them think it could happen to them and hopefully change their attitude abit. I for once congratulate the police.. |

Aren't we all so eager to jump on the bandwagon and say to hell with someone's life. I can certainly see that a death sentence is warranted for stealing a car and joyriding. In all my years I think this is the first time I've ever heard of young blokes speeding (I'm sure no one here has ever run their car to 170kph) ... these felons should be publically hanged.
If you think logically about this situation, the police supposedly gave up the chase... well obviously they didn't. The car had been doing 170 kph with a copper up it's date..... well if it had been spiked at 170 kph and hit a tree at that speed there wouldn't be anything left of the car, so it must have been travelling at a much slower speed and therefore unlikely to pose a threat to the township in the distant yonder. How is it that the thin blue line will stop you from driving an unroadworthy vehicle, yet they go out of there way to make a vehicle, driven by a frightened youth, totally unroadworthy in pursuit of truth, justice and the financial way? I bet there are a couple of cops now who had a smug idea initially, but are wishing they hadn't been so clever. They may have no remorse over their daily revenue raising from average mum and dad, but this one will probably cause them a few nightmares when they realise what a grave risk they put those boys in...... and trust me, when you are much older you realise that at 18 they are still impulsive children. |

What a complete **** up by the police.
Should of given the rear tyres a couple of loads of 12ga buckshot. Natural selection at it's best. Hope the tree survives. Quote:

the police call off the chase, the road spikes are not brought out, they keep going, lose control, hit the car carrying your family. you'd be the first person lining up the police to tell them they didnt do enought to stop them.

In the states they use spikes that are like star shaped nails with a small orifice in the middle to slowly release air, i wonder if we use them too?
In the states they also use guns to shoot the drivers and ram cars off the road too..... I think were pretty careful here.

What have the criminals committed that requires escape at that speed? Thats what the police have answer in the heat of the moment. Did they just murder someone? Have they just planted a bomb? Have they just committed a violent robbery?

I sincerely hope the tree wasn’t badly injured and I wish it a speedy recovery.
