The majority of people who would buy a Camry/Aurion don't give a hoot about cars anyway .. they just want their reliable a-to-b modes of transport. They are unlikely to buy a Commodore/Falcon 'cos a bit of styling/performance/"Image" would scare them. Just as an average Commodore/Falcon buyer is unlikely to buy a Camry/Aurion .... and no award is going to sway them on that. Toyota/Mitsubishi Australia can build everything except excitement ..

Yes I know! The F6 and GTP, XR6T, XR5 Territory etc all not what the public want. Wish they would stop building these so I can buy a commode. : If it wasnt for the other manifactuers, Ford would be crap, and vise versa. This is a Ford forum so the 'opposition' will always be discussed, negatively and very occasionly positive.

Specific niche models aren't the problem. Ford sales are second rate because they aren't supplying a car and service the broader market wants, they have second tier sales people and exhausted the bodyline. I think Ford are also carrying historical baggage.

As far negativity about the Holden brand, well with a captive audience it hardly has any worth except for shallow back slapping.

All building cars here, all foreign owned.

But Mitsubishi is on death row. Yes, its technically there. But for 800 cars a month, who cares?

I think some people are mixed up with COTY. The one Falcon Coupe mentioned was a different COTY...

And I don't take this award with the utmost importance. It's based on what old people wanna drive... :monkes:

Based on the fact that the 380 got a 9 for price! By giving them away doesnt make them more desirable!

Security was 6.....lots are being burnt by there owners and claimed on insurance!

I feel I need to clarify my earlier post. By overseas car maker, I mean't, one that isn't consdered by a layman as being "aussie owned". I.E Most people see the Holden and Fords as being Australian while the Toyota and all that are considered Asian/Imports.

I can't help the fact we all know better

The 'average' Commodore/Falcon buyer is the company fleet manager, and if they can get a better deal, on a cheaper car, thats more reliable and has better resale value, then they will take it.

Not entirely - Mitsubishi's import business of the 4wds and lancers has been quite profitable lately, and MMAL has been in the black from that.

Obviously the Tonsley Park operation is not contributing really to this profit but MMAL have managed to significantly get their costs down at that plant to the extent that they can rely on sales of approx 1000 vehicles per month.

From my recent understandings, Geelong had a greater risk of closure given the global position of FoMoCo, slowing sales, and development costs of the orion.

You don't sound much of a die hard to me....I mean picking a Mitsubishi or Toyota over an AU.

By Mitsubishi, do you mean Magna? By Toyota, do you mean Camry or Avalon?

Diehard...I don't think so.

You can't have seen the advert where the Aurion manages to out fox the helicopter crew playing spotlight tag. That alone was probably enough to convince the judges, that and the "technical" junkets to Japan. _

Lets be honest, If the whole range was there the Aurion and 380 wouldn't be in the contest.
As a base model the engine and tranny let the VE down. It should have the 195 and 5 speed..
But in my opinion when it comes too choice the falcon-commodore's have a greater choice over the range.

The VE should have won. Not this Toyota garbage. The Aurion lacks any excitement whatsoever.
