Hmmm no that will only fade the paint and introduce medium to deep scratches
You want the finish to look like it's fresh off the gun, underwater and highest distinction of image.

This may require a machine to burnish the paint free of those marks, lines and swirls that hide the true reflection and clarity.

Gotta start with the clay as doc suggested.
Since your car is a later model AU, your car has the newer factory paint which was changed in 2000 I believe. my galaxy blue is the older PPG 2K finish. This means your paint will respond better than mine and I reckon will look wetter, clearer, deeper and have less orange peel (though I chemically flattened mine out thankfully)

Haven't used the clay bar but have been using an imported product from germany called CAR LACK for 25 years and as much as I try I still can't find a meguires, auto glym or anything else that is as easy to remove, gets rid of leaf stains and tar and has no petro chemicals or abrasives in it. And cheaper to boot. Fluro polymer with cleanser.

I guess we all stick with what we know.

Here's mine in a quite dusty condition...but you can still see the "deep" shine.

Carlack 68 nano systematic care in the yellow bottle is I believe what your refering too
I use that also, sometimes by machine. A fantastic chemical polish and sealer that can be used heaps of times and not cut through your paint.

Default Carlack 68

You can buy it from here:

Carlack 68

Not for me though. I figure that if I ever start looking after the old dear it'll start to expect it. Stuff that. Too much hard work. It'll be long gone before the paint's completely buggered anyway.

All you need is a bucket of water and a chamois.
As you have seen many a time at shows with my ute.
Comes up sparkling ... maybe a "little" bit of wax ... but that's for special occasions.

White looks clean ... even when dirty.
Don't try taking photos of it in direct sunlight after waxing though.
White is difficult to spot sections that have been missed though (unlike dark colours).

Gee you guys are slack. Just gently rub it in and leave it for 20 mins and then wipe off.
compared to machine polishing someone's paint for eight hours on a 37 degree day (last week), doing that is like sleeping.

i ended up using Meguires nxt Genteration wash, Paint X and deep crystal wet look wax. The pics are shotty for now as you really cant see the shine enough, so when the sun finally comes back out i'll get some more shiny ones for you all to enjoy. Thanks to all of you who gave me advice.

MAFIA depending on the company, as they all differ so read the labels to be sure to be sure

In general a (some not all) polish has some abrasives and takes back a bit of the dull look to your paint or may aid in swirl removal etc, where a polish ( some not all ) in general do not have abrasives but more act as a sealant / protection layer on your paint.

As above read the labels for the product, an example is Megs 3 step process has a polish, but even though it's called a polish it has no abrasives and therefore more a sealant. If manufactures had the same guide lines it would be easy.

As for what best for black, the ols $69 question, as without seeing the car it is hard to come up with the right combo, In general though look for a Cab wax as these tend to bring out the deeper " wet look " on darker cars and probably a good call would be the megs 3 step process for this.

Aye You, that car has come up well, there is some good shine happening down the side of the car, the wax will help it with the next wash and if you keep at it you will bring it up another level with the next wash, each time just keep detailing one more thing that little bit more and within a short period of time it will be show room and in that you will find it easier to keep it that way.

great to see and well done.

Sunburn does suck, but that tells me a story, when washing / cleaning the car always do it in a shaded spot never full sun and allow your car to cool down if hot, as this will make it near impossible to clean properly, and causes the water to dry faster, allowing for water marks to form on you panels / glass etc. :
