Save a few more bones and go a T3. I can't stand the AU shape but the T3 manages to pull it off somehow.

I hated the AU styling when it first came out ... and was looking at B-series utes when I was in the market for one .... but found the later series AUs a much better value for many vehicle at the time.

There's a lot of aftermarket support for them ... cheap to run and maintain ... and when it comes to the ute ... the AU feels like it handles better and is more comfortable inside as well ... interior feels a lot more solid than the B-series and is more resistant to scratching as well.

The A-series is underpowered compared to the B-series though.

Both models have their fair share of problems though.

What really killed the AU was the styling of the Series I Forte's when they first came out ... no one will ever forget those.

I have an AU III XR6 in Ford Blueprint Blue, with the Tickford 17" Rims, Pacemaker Race headers ceramic coated, 3" Metal Catz Ceramic HF Cat, Lukey 2.5" Mandrel Bent Cat Back system and Lowered on King SSL Springs. Car looks hot. I love it, except for the Head Gasket that went after 15,000Kms after rebuild and the Valve guide falling into the cylinder causing the need for a rebuild. I believe I got a lemon, cause my dad had a Fairmont Ghia AU1 that never had a problem. I love the style of them, that's why I got it, I've kept it looking as stock as possible when it's just sitting there, and other than the 7" LCD DVD player that I've replaced the Head unit with, you'd never pick it to be anything but. The car goes hard, and thanks to Autotech, will be going even harder soon enough. IMHO

AU's are more of a drivers car, BA's are a bit of a poser IMHO (watch 'em go at this one :hihi: )

I have a Series III XR8 ute and prefer to drive it over BA XR8's.

back to the topic, I love my AU its a great car and always get praises from holden lovers from it. handles excellent, not bad power for a n/a 6 either, and i love the look of em too.

its simple dont be a sheep, buy the car you want and not what other people think is cool/not cool

I agree with you there ... but after some time behind the wheel ... the curved interior grows on your though. and I prefer some aspects of the interior of the AU over B and S-series vehicles.

Although the centre dash stack on the AU could have been designed much better.

I find the doors, steering wheel and remainder of the dash/cluster much nice on the eyes than the squarer interior of the Falcon/Territory ... it doesn't feel so "clinical".

I think the AU's are a great car! Infact i would say that my dads previous car, an AUII fairmont Ghia, had better quality interior than his new BFmkII fairmont Ghia. As well as that, they can be made to look a very smart lookin car.
BTW, my next car will most likley be an AUIII XR8, IMO they are the best of the lot, and with a bit of work can proberly be made into a real power house!

Didnt even notice it was rounded. Love the interiors. But then again, not everyone has the same tastes, and sees things the same.

i used to be one of the greatest haters of AU's, but im must say they have grown on me. I still like my BA better though

With you there mate, while I don't necessarily like the overall interior look, I do personally find it to be a more comfortable place to be, and in my eyes, has a higher quality look and feel than the equivalent BA.

When the AU's came out, I absolutely hated them all - series 1, 2, 3, XR's whatever! When we bought ours, I bought it thinking this is such an ugly beast, but had heard they were very reliable, so went with it anyway.

Now, I'm glad we went for the AU and the looks have definitely grown on me and something that was just supposed to be a stop gap car will be staying with us for a long time.

Dunno if it's just me, but I find that the AU 2/3's dont look quite as dated as the equivalent year Commodores? Even up against the BA, as long as the AU is in good nick, many people can't actually pick which is newer?

AU's look ALOT better than the VT commies.

Ive never been a huge fan of the AU, but dumpted and some nice rims and they look alot more modern than a BA/BF.

For the the only B series that has got my visual appeal is the F6 series. Minimal but still beefy enough. I love my XR6 VCT ST, the never-breaking-down factor of the 6 with the killer looks of an XR8/T Series hybrid...

I can also vouch for the AU being a drivers car. The steering is a crapload more direct and properly weighted compared to the BA/BF's I've driven, and the suspension seems to play more nicely with the cars movement, instead of the cardboard box (my words) feeling of the BA That's not to say the B series isn't a good car. They've got some improvements, but lack where the AU excels

I'd definately go at *least* a Series 3 XR and work up from there

XR8 Rebel - T3 series or a 250 Pursuit. I personally have a thing for very clean Galaxy blue or black Series I XR8's with full Tickford body kit.

AU's have their own unique character, as most things that are designed to break traditional patterns do. I myself can't see myself having another one, but if you haven't had an AU yet then why not.

When they first came out I thought they were very very good looking cars. They look crap now though (no offense to anyone :hihi: ), the VX looks much nicer imo.
