What a stupid thread. If you like Fords you buy a ford. If you like Holdens you buy a holden. Why is there so much to discuss here?

You are comparing the 245 XR6 T of the BF to the new VE?? Atleast wait for Orion for a fair contest.

OK i have been lazy and havn't read the whole thread but i think the 7L 385KW V8 is a massive issue when it comes to both Ford competing on the short term and Holdens liklyhood of another bail out.

Err no - Holden have NO answer to the XR6T, the SS is a V8 performance sedan not a performance 6. Holden market the SV6 as their performance 6 and it can't touch the XR6T as far as performance is concerned.

wow 369nm at 5200 and 225 at 6200.....Im impressed that a pretty good boat anchor..... Pitty you need to rev it to 5000 to get a HALF descent launch.

Oh and Every BA/BF with a flashtune is pushing around 230KW At 5000 and almost 400 nm at 2500.

Holden's V6 Best Boat Anchor award Id rather a 3.9L multi point.

I thought Holden and Ford is practically the same in just about everywhere since you could put an part off another and put into another. I dont see the point of argument nor the worry consider they are trying to keep some business in Australia. Thou not sure about them fitting some of the thing due to oil prices

The demographic of people that buy base model (or even Fairmont/Calais) 6 cyl cars are not interested in how many kw the car has or hasn't got. They are interested in the looks and features and probably more importantly the economy.

People who buy XRs and SSs are more interested in kw.

It could be argued the SS takes on the XR6T and XR8, but the XR6T is more of a fight, than the XR8. IMO

Why isn't it fair? Are we supposed to wait another year for a "fair" comparison?

Seems like another excuse to me.

No no excuses but apples with apples. BF wasnt designed to compare to VE but Orion will be. Besides if you want to go ahead with comparing them then Id take the XR6T and spend the money I save on some enhancements and then there could be no excuses.

SV6=XR6
(Price and performance wise, SS)=XR6t
SS = XR8
SSV=XR8 with the luxury pack.

I think thats the best way to put it.

DI will reduce fuel economy...not increase :S

Exactly, I dont see what the issue is, if Holden release a V6 with more power than good luck to them, I cant see it making any impact on people that buy the base model cars (ie Fleets/Government) I don't see why every arguement comes down to how many kw a car has in standard form. If you really want kw's than talk to some of the guys on these forums and give them the $$$ and you can buy as many kws as you can afford.

Mmm I think Ford thought the same with the Fairlane/LTD thus leaving it at inferior power levels to the V8 Statesman. Not saying thats what killed the Fairlane but I seem to see alot (Probly 8/10) Grampas in their statesmans who ticked the V8 box and were happy to pay the extra and alot of the time theres no towbar, and they arent hoons so Go Figure...

i agree. while the title of the thread is somewhat worthy of discussion, (although this is a Ford forum, not a Holden one, and it could have done without the exclamation mark), the poll is disturbingly unintelligent.

who cares if Holden bring out a more powerful 6? does that mean everyone here is going to sell their Fords and buy a dunnydore? is power output all we care about? don't most people buy cars because of the way they look.

if you like a car, you buy it. power output is something you can work on later.

I started the thread because I find 225kw out of a NA 3.6 very interesting.

When I was born Ford had recently passed the 100kw mark in the 250ci and Holden was bitching cos their 202 sucked and so went and had a cry to Nissan.

Power levels in the domestics are growing at an exponential rate.

Its not that hard...Nissan make 230kw out of a 3.5...Honda make 170 + in NA 4 cyls...just depends how much $$$ you have to engineer the thing and how you deal with issues relating to warranty/reliability.
