what dealer? i notice wayne phillis @ christies has already had a few mentions in this thread. i use wayne phillis reynella for anything i need and they are awesome.

thanks for bumping this thread up. i bought a LS focus on the weekend for my inlaws and it seems to have this same problem.

the other time i noticed almost the same sort of 'shunt' was at 100 - 110 in 4th. almost like a really noticeable lockup of the converter. not sure if its related at all.

20focus05 - you still at rowell and searle? its interesting you mention the TPS could be faulty. the one i bought, when you go to take off, has not much reaction to the first bit of accelerater travel and then suddenly you are off. can this be adjusted? are they 'fly by wire'?

Hey Prydey I have only just left them last week. I have a 15km drive now instead of 100
LS are drive by wire and I dont think TPS is adjustable.
I have also now heard about the software updates which are fixing the problem.
The only real problem we have seen with the focus is soloniod failures.
we had one guy who had codes retrived and it says something like valvebody issue but all it is is one of the shift soloniods. he was qouted $2500 to replace valvebody,
we did it for about $800 to replace soloniods, I also dismantled valvebody and replaced gaskets because the code that came up can relate to a gasket blowout.
I have driven an auto LS and though the same about accel.

cheers.

if left, can the 'shunt' get worse, or become a bigger issue. as you may be aware the car is my inlaws and i didn't mention it to them because i doubt they'd even notice.

Jarvis Ford Norwood look after my two cars. I've been very happy with their service department.

What do you recommend be actually carried out in an auto transmission service for a Focus, so I can make sure the right things are done?

These transmissions are the same as the mazda 323, protge, 3, 6. Ford call them a different name.
Remove pan
remove filter
replace filter
replace pan with new gasket
fill it up, sometimes they will have a buzz after a refill sounds like cavatation(have never found the cause)
We over come this by over filling give it a short run then remove oil back to level.
There are no adjustments required to bands, all preset.

These Transmissions rarely have major issues, most problems we have seen are related to solonoids.

Hi guys, I also have an auto LS Focus which seems to be have a few issues.

My focus mainly drives on the freeway, and recently, when I start to slow down or get off the freeway, it doesnt know what gear it wants to be in and usually hold onto 2nd. When it does eventually change gears it does make a clunking sound. Would anyone know what the issue might be?

If you have done 80,000 + klm check the CV joints in the drive shaft especially when slow cornering they make a noise if worn
