So if your motor was good, what would you expect for your car private sale?

Lol at all the posts, Yes i admit I have feelings of intrepidation about this. Nothing will ever be quite the same as a V8. Especially my little beast cause i'm attached too it.

At the same time, I feel it's time to move on. And this 6T certainly caught my eye.

So I'm sort of stuck. I don't even know if the finance, trade-in etc will even go through. So I may have the 8 for a while to come yet.

Waiting game :-)

Not quite sure. Never really considered a private sale, because cars are hard enough to move around here anyway at the moment, and don't really have the time to wait around to sell it.

I'm not even sure if I want to sell it lol.... :

Sorry to hear its buggered.

It was a mistake....cop it on the chin, and swap it out with a long motor from a wrecker.

Less than $2k, and a weekends worh of work if you've got the space, tools, patience, and a mate to help.

damn dude that sucks.....tho if i were you, i wouldnt sell your current ride...like wat some have mentioned, a T6 is not the same as a V8..as soon as you plant our foot, you will notice the difference, however the T6 gets a good kick in the ***, which makes it get up and go...but off the line the V8 would pull alot better...try a bseries 8...test drive both the 8 and 6T and choose for yourself...and consider weather its worth selling your ride and getting finance on a car that depreciates radically or just repairing your current ride...

I'm sure that everybody paying out on Jamie is only joking, I certainly hope so anyway. They're only cars, doesnt matter how old/new it is.

Jamie I dont know much about XR6T's but it looks ok, you will kick yourself going from white to black (hope youve got a lot of free weekends to clean the bloody thing), personally I'd ditch the 20's and fit maybe some 18/19" rims because one good pothole will stuff a rim or tyre - or both.

See what you think, if you enjoy it, then go for it. I miss my AU but there's no way I'd ever trade the FG to get back into it.

Well I've decided to keep the AU a bit longer.

I test drove two Turbo's, and must say I was less than impressed with both of them lol.

The first was a BA 2 - 6spd Manual, Not a bad car, found the gearbox a bit clunky and sometimes difficult to get into first gear. Was preety fun, but definitely lacking something.

The second was a BF 1 - 6spd Auto. I can see why you ZF boys like these things, If I had to drive an auto, this would be it. 1st gear acceleration was unreal, although for a higher powered application i'd reckon you would get sick of that 1st gear ratio preety quick.

But in the end, they both missed something, and no offence to any T owners around, but my XR8 (when it was running right) - would have thrashed the living hell outta these cars at any time except cornering. Braking was not as good, acceleration was nowhere near as good. And you can't shake the feeling that these things are heavy - compared to an AU anyway.

So there's my 2 bobs worth, and looks like i'll keep the au, and boost it a bit down the track. :-)

Yeah I'm waitinig for all the "I told you so's lol" - Don't get me wrong they are nice cars, but with all they hype about the XR6 T's - I really expected more..... Now a Typhoon is another matter, I'd own one of those in a heartbeat

How much is it going to cost to get you going again?

I apologise if that's already in the thread. If so, just direct me to the post #.

Good Choice. There's something about AU XR8s that makes it such a great driving experience.
I got a complete forged 347 short block here for sale if you feel the need to "replace" the bottom end :

Nah mate all good, not in thread :-)

As for cost i'm not sure. At the moment I have nearly finished re-assembling it.

I'm going to just try it out, see how it goes. There are no signs of water in the oil, and no signs of oil in the water - so that's some good news. The compression seems a bit iffy, but i'm unsure - as my compression tester would not screw in for some reason, and I had to resort to a push and hold type tester that made it near impossible to get accurate readings.

So to summarise,

Fluids don't appear to be mixing

No smoke being blown - so minimal to no oil getting past the rings (even though the compression is strange)

Starts, runs, idles perfectly fine. If I hadn't of cooked it, I never would have noticed a difference.

So hopefully I'll get away with $0 dollars spent, but we will see this weekend.

Only thing that concerns me is an oil leak under the oil filter area of the car... And a decent leak at that. I"m preety sure it's not coming from the filter or oil cooler adapter plate so, that one has me worried. Especially since there was no leak before I cooked it (except for a drop or two eachnight from i suspect the rear main)

Does everyone think I actually have a hope? Or I am just gonna be pulling it down again lol :

Are you sure the leak is from under the filter and not above and tracking down to there?

This is a good question, although I'm not familiar with the underside of the Windsor.

On the I6, it often appears that the sump is leaking, or around the oil filter area, but oil has dripped from higher up, naturally following the crevices of the engine down to the sump area.

I hope that's all it is in your case too.

Russ - GK

I'm not 100% sure where its coming from, but there doesnt appear to be any oil above the area. Like I said though, its a bit dirty and hard to tell.
I suppose my best bet would be to de-grease the entire area, and see if I can have a better look.
It may have been a one off sort of thing when it was cooking too, because there doesnt appear to be anymore oil there now, than there was 2 weeks ago???

I'd be doing what you suggest, de-grease and a good look underneath. Put the car up on ramps and get under there with the light and garage creeper. Get a mate to rev it a bit.

I hope it's a once off, but what would cause such a thing? Extra pressure in the crank, putting pressure on the PCV valve? Why would it do it if the engine was only idling though?

Where are all the mechanical experts when you need them? LOL!

In any case, I hope it's a one off, or an accumulation over time that you only noticed after the overheating issue.

Oil pressure switch screws into the block just above and toward the front of where the oil filter sits. To give you an idea of exactly where the hose connections for the cooler onto the filter adaptor sit right in front of it blocking any easy access.
