My folks when hearing about the latest big $ spend or track day in the GT, just shake their heads, they're not car people.

Ha This is a great thread.
The other week me and my dad where changing all the pads and front rotors on the car. Well natually we end up at the back. So as it goes, jack it up, take off wheels, etc etc. Let me just mention, he bought me these tyres after I bought the car last July, so less than a year old. So anyway, he sees these tyres, inside half smoother than sandpaper. He goes 'What happened?' "I dont know, bad wheel alignment maybe?" Both of us knowing full well how it has occoured. I thought I had it coming to me, brace myself for a wrench across the head. But he ended up reminicing about his old e38r/t he had when he was younger, went on for 20 minutes. So we finished packing up just about to go inside and he says very sly 'regos due soon, better start saving''yes dad'

when my dad was in his teens, his dad told him not to get a motorbike because he'd end up in hospital.....
sure enough, he got hit by someone coming out of a side road, broken leg, etc what did his dad say? "bloody told you so"...... he then walked straight out of the hospital and refused to see him again till he got out of hospital!

My old man use to do up Brittish cars, and sell them off. When I was 13 he bought a Triumph Dolomite Sprint, '72 model (2 litre, 16valve 6speed manual), that had a blown motor and had been vandalised. This was going to be my first car, after helping him do a ground up restoration on it, which took about 12 months. Panels, paint, tricked up motor, new interior, the works. He was very proud of what I had learnt and the interest I showed helping him restore it.
I was 14 when I decided that it was a good idea to take his pride and joy, a Range Rover for a spin/ top speed run/ rally. Needless to say the Rangie came off the road at well over 100km/h, narrowly missing a power pole. I drove it home, complete with tree branches hanging out of the bullbar, smashed windscreen and minor panel damage, parked it and disappeared for a couple of days. I summoned up the balls to return home. I got the flogging I deserved from dad, while mum pleaded for him to stop, when he had finished giving me a belting mum began giving me another. Anyhow a couple of days before my 16th birthday I'm salavating about getting the keys to the Dolomite, which had now been registered for about one year, dad had taken me for many drives in this car by now. It used to go well, suprised many hot 6cyl Toranas, Escorts and old V8s, looked great also. Sitting at home one day a lady comes over to our house "I'm here to look at the Dolomite", "Why" I ask? "It's For sale" her reply. So he sold it. I was devastated. and with some of the money he got for the car he bought me (just to rub salt into the wound) a Datsun 200B. He told me the Dolomite was not a young man's car. He was right, I probably would have come to grief in that machine but it hurt like hell to see it go. |

One night out in Wellington (unzud) having found a stunning little blonde dental nurse named Megan and being young and stupid thought a bit of showing off was in order down port road . Of course one of mums friends was out and about at 2am (wtf) and rang her out of bed . I get in about 4 am and try to cruise into bed without waking them (impossible considering the 8 made the house move on the foundations A cold night I whip the covers over my head and suddenly a torrent of blows with mums br00m smash me about the face and body and she screams at me Ïf you ever get me woken like that again dont bother coming back"" (she was way loud) Well it didn't happen again as I made sure any wheelies and racing was done more than 1k from home Still miss the car but the 15 mpg even in those days was beyond affording and the bellow of a 4 barrel and loud pipes was wondeful Only thing faster at the time was a mates hot 63 failane in powder blue Last edited by atec77; 29-06-2010 at 08:16 PM. |

hahaha.. heading up my road one day I was seeing at what revs first gear would end in and change to second (probably making a bit of noise in the process) and pulled in my driveway to find my dad standing out front where he had been doing gardening.. had a rock/solid clump of dirt in his hand and said he was gonna throw it at whatever car was tearing up the street. Told me not to shlt in my own backyard so I keep any of that stuff away from my street now haha

As for me...mum just calls me a rally driver...don't know why, it's not like the car goes sliding around on the road... also, i too remember the spoons! by the time i had learnt to run when she went to the kitchen after telling me off i was too tall to hide! so i used to just duck and weave around, till she started throwing them at me!!! |

HA the good ol broom, but then there is also the old mans belt lol. I never forget them times he would pull that thing off in one swift motion, like a shotgun repump, then run around with one hand swinging the belt and the other hand on the trouser top desperatley trying to keep them from sliding down the legs lol. I used to reverse dad's old car out, XE s pak 4 speed manual with LSD, accelerate in reverse then dump the clutch in first for a fine rollback. I would then park it back in and not hear a word from anyone. Surprisingly I never got busted however he used to complain about a vibration coming from the ford to which he figured was an egg in the tire or something. Not long after I couldnt help but cringe the day dad gets dropped off by his friend and says to me "Bloody cars! How the hell do tailshaft bolts snap out of nowhere?" We then had to go fix a car that was stranded on a main road with its tailshaft that defintaley did not look right hanging down on the road

Was just a quick rev and drop the clutch. Was lucky to even get 2seconds of spin. I was giving him grief cos his other car is a Gemini with a 5litre and his 4cyl couldn't do half the burnout the other one does! It's a real bucket.
