You are mostly correct, but I still managed to get one to spin the rear wheels before the Quadra-Drive system delivered the torque to the wheels with the most traction.
So I assumed it drove mostly with power to the rear wheels, but I read now its just the majority of the torque split.

Well if towing capacity and AWD isn't important to you, go for a petrol RWD Territory Titanium. It is worth going for the Titanium just for that DVD player, no more back seat antics from the little ones on long trips, plus with the SZ II it comes with side steps as standard.
All these things plus the overall family friendly design make it a car that is very easy to live with if you have kids. Ford got it the size and dynamics 100% spot on.

No one has mentioned the Volkswagen Touareg. I purchased a 3 year old one with 40Km for under 60 grand. I originally wanted a Jeep GC but it had no room for my handicapped right leg or a foot rest. The VW has been fantastic. Good points include power, economy, ride, seats. Bad points are that high beam lights are useless for open country. Service at VW can be pricey and there is no adaptive cruise or lane change alert. It is virtually the same diesel motor and chassis as similar age Porsche Cayenne or Audi Q7 for half the price. Have a look and you might be surprised like I was.

I drove my old Territory to 246,000kms. the front suspension had a warranty job at 45,000 kms and was never touched since.
I don't think you know what your talking about.

Edit: honestly I can't think of a better vehicle to drive a family 500+km in, in comfort with gear; then handle beautifully on a testing twisting ascent; then tackling whatever icy challenges are at the top. Not for 35-55K at any rate. "Ford builds an Aussie X5 for Falcon bucks," they said. Also, my reading of when SZ came out was that the front diff would de-couple at idle to save fuel. The AWD in SY, SY2 is engaged all the time (hence higher fuel use) and features a 38/62 split of torque front to rear. Ford engineers correct me here if I am incorrect. For this reason, we do not wish to upgrade into an AWD Territory that decouples the front diff either. When SZ came out you could have AWD only in diesel, and on driving it I much prefer the more linear inline 6, but that's just me.

Yep, they nailed every aspect of the design, found a niche in the market and also created a niche (RWD/AWD; 5/7 seat choice; interior functionality, handling, blur of lines between 4x4 and people mover) all in one fell swoop.

Perhaps you'll find this useful? I am testing Haval H2 atm, H8 next week. Gotta say the H2 is surprising in alot of areas, they're almost there. It feels nimble but I don't know how it would fare with a high speed maneouver. H8 review will be up by next week. As for a vehicle similar to Territory, Kluger's ugly, Craptiva is crap, I'd go CX-9 once it comes out later this year. |

Jeep GC is hard to go past - 40k driveaway for 4x2 petrol for 2015 build. It seems like a pretty good value.
