Had a quick flick through this book today after getting it for my Father's Day present. I notice that there quite a number of photos of cars coming off the production lines with employees in them.

Anyone on these forums in these photos?

My father's day gift has provided some great reading and insights into the history of Ford in Australia.

It was interesting to read how Ford contributed to the war effort by building naval ships, armoured vehicles, jeeps, naval mines and parts for war planes during the second world war out of Geelong.

This really is the definitive book on the history of Ford Australia and I'm sure will one day become a true collectors item being a limited print run!

After reading this book I am amazed that Ford Aust made it past the Mk2 Zephyr.
Thanks to the brave men putting their careers in jeopardy to push ideas through.
Both Ford Oz and GMH have had exports denied or strangled by the US masters. The bean counters and honchos seem to have been intent on closing local manufacturing for 60 years for Ford, and 40 years for Holden.

I bought the Holden book yesterday from Target, it too is a great read. With the Ford book they look good side by side on the shelf.

G'day Ira and all..This does not surprise me in the least..One thing about some big bikky 'Murricans' is it's great so long as it's Made in the USA..nothing else counts for many of them..We know different don't we.. Just imagine a GT Falcon , XR6T, F6 , TS/TE 50 , etc going over and kicking Camaro , SRT , Charger , maybe even Viper butt with a bit of good old Aussie know how and with 4 doors too..How narrow minded are more than a few Yanks who think it can't be a fast car because it's got four doors..How pathetic is that ?..Glad you love the book..Got to get myself a copy soon..Cheers Rod..

G'day all...Once I posted a reply in this terrific thread I thought I'd better try and order a copy online . Out of stock in a few regular haunts of mine but then I thought I might ask the erstwhile fellow AFF forum crew for any good suggestions on how to get a copy . I will try Dymocks in Hobart tomorrow to see of they are likely to re stock soon but inter state might be a bit quicker. It'd be a travesty not to have one for posterity..Cheers Rod..

ABC still have some.

Got a copy for Fathers day today. A really good book and very hard to stop reading it. I was impressed with the weight and quality plus the content is very thorough. Complements to the authors and contributors.

Someone within the Woolies organisation has advised me that there are very few copies left across the SE corner of 'straya. Fathers Day shenanigans resulted in mass sales, outnumbering the Holden book 10:1.

Perhaps that's because only 1 in 10 Holden drivers can actually read. LOL

Well with the reviews in here and the stuffing about looking for one threw $10 to ABC Shop for postage and just bought one. Looking forward to the read.

Thanks, rjk74. I just called and got them to hold a copy for me. Apparently someone else called just before me, so probably one left now.

G'day all.....I AM A GOOSE....I didn't think it would be so hard to get one of these great books...A few weeks ago I rang ABC Bookshop and was told that they'd run out but try again in three weeks which was mid October..I did exactly that and was informed that there is now a delay and ABC Shops will not have the book again now until around December 5th which is about five and a half to six weeks away...Had a look on Dymocks online...same thing , sold out and may be available again early December...
Why oh why didn't I buy early on...Nup , bloody goose I am...It's official...
Unless I find another outlet somewhere between now and mid /late November that has it , I'll bloody pre-order this time a couple of weeks before anticipated due date...
Only good thing is I know it'll be worth the wait and the sixty bucks or so..
Cheers Rod...

I got the book for my birthday, very interesting but I was a bit disappointed that they didn't do things like give full build numbers for the Falcon (they only have the top 10) and there are some strange mistakes like calling the Nissan version of the XF ute the Navara (or Navarra) which quite a few websites have done too.

Roddy - if you want it sooner, see these guys:
http://www.abbeys.com.au/book/fiord-australia.do
(don't mind the mis-spelling in the link)

$60 for the book, $6.50 post and they'll send it anywhere in Oz. They have them in stock (unlike most others who claim they can "order it in" but then put you in the backorder queue until December).

So anyone having trouble check out their local BigW....

I bought a copy at the airport. Got it home and undid the clear wrapping. I discovered the book was hard to remove from the protective box. When it did finally dislodge I found the glue that held the protective box together had also glued the book in. Ended up damaging the box and the book has a glue line on the top edge of the cover. Anyone else had this problem?
