If it is sold then it will depend on what the new owner wishes to do with it.

Complete or part restoration,

refresh engine internally but leave it messy etc,

or join the ranks of the infamous Outback GT but with a HO3

If you do drive it well basically kiss goodbye its value.

If you hold onto it, do you think the next generation will appreciate it and pay good coin for it??.. the current buyers are also the last set of buyers. (They are aged)

This auction is a classic "dont be holding the bag" when the music stops
well, I cant say I agree with any of that
I'd be very surprised if you've had more experience than myself or a lot of people here with classics.
Even though it's ratty and I dont particularly like it means nothing its not going to make a difference, if you have been involved with the classic car scene you would be amazed what people buy for top $$$ such as the 26k Moke but each to their own.

Why should anyone care what someone they don't know buys anyway?

Looking back, you can be sure even if it drops some value it will bounce back again in the future.
That car will have some miles so I cant see how driving it would hurt the resale value, its not a trailer queen so a couple of extra wear and tear signs will mean Jack. Its a HO you could actually have a bit of fun in. Not driving any old car is what kills them quicker than anything

The last generation of buyers is complete b/s
Collectors are born every year.

Imagine if there were such detailed photos of any current HO's (prior to their restoration) - would that affect their values at all?

I just dont get it..

I honestly think paying $25k for that car is paying overs.

As i said rare dont mean its functionally any good.

There's a difference between rare and desirable.

And with the XY GT/P3 they were and probably still are the most replicated car over the past 5 decades - there's a reason for that.

I don't think the old girls are worth that much if your thinking with your head anyway, but unfortunately us humans also possess a heart and sometimes that gets the better of us. People go nuts for these things and for good reason, they are a car you buy with your heart not your head.

Here is a genuine GT HO up for grabs and everyone is arguing debating its worth?

Someone will pay whatever they feel comfortable paying to own it.

Simples...

Got to admit to being twice surprised by that...firstly that bidding got that high (shows my ignorance) and secondly that it was passed in at that price.

Obviously the owner does not need the cash.
$430K or an unrestored GTHO... I know what I would choose.

I'm wondering if the museum is into the nugget brown HO3 for more than 430k............I remember it was purchased at the time they sold the black HO3 for almost 1 million.

The top bidder at $430K is a very lucky man.
Lucky that it was passed in and thus saved him spending $430K on a poor quality vehicle that is just not worth that.

id almost wonder at the estimate and pass in values , if the 430k was a ghost bid to try and get it up there ? well the auction house wouldn't want to buy it them selfs
