They wont "cover a person of my age because of all the major mods the car has". :(

At the moment that is very tempting but if I got rid of it I would want to clear more of my loan. PM me the offer again, I forgot what it was

I agree, as long as the child appreciates it. I used to know a guy who his parents (one of which was fairly well known in the drag racing scene at the time with his 351 powered Capri) got him an XB sedan. Pretty much stock from memory, but in EXTREMELY good condition, rust free, all it really needed was the usual mods a stocky needs anyway. Anyway, he drove that like an absolute tool, I lost count of how many times he just missed parked cars, telephone poles, trees, gutters, etc by a matter of less then an inch. Then, after a while, he got into his car when he was really ****ed off, took off down the road, and AIMED for a tree, demolishing the front end of what was a very nice XB. How did his parents react to this? They got him an immaculate XF Fairmont Ghia, which had always been his dream car. I would have told him that after destroying the XB, he can bl**dy well walk if I was them, but they went out and got him the car he'd always wanted instead, after he'd shown no appreciation for the car they had originally got for him.

It's tools like him who give younger drivers a bad reputation and drive up the cost of insurance for people who actually have a clue.

Anyway.... Best of luck with it all mate, once you find a GOOD insurer, let us all know please, I'm currently looking for a good insurer myself - 27, probationary license until the end of this year, never had any accidents, car is a 1985 XF, still stock, but I do want to mod it...

Who now?

Have you been asking about just third party too?

I'm 100% sure you want this fully comprehensive insured.

Engineering, Parents still cant help. Most modified car co's want the mods to be legal and RWC and you have to have me on the policy or it wont count. They regard me as the main driver and disallow it.

I agree they did pay for most of my car afterall :hihi:

I just meant not all people who get cars given to them, sit around and dont work . All my mates who got their cars paid for by parents are have been working since a young age too.

Now back on topic, are you still going to try get it engineered in NSW?

Engineering depends on what happens.

I have tried off the top of my head, Vigil, suncorp, shannons, RACV, AAMI, Just cars, CGU, Prestige, Allianz. There is heaps more too that I cant remember right now.

I'm going to RACQ tomorrow Dan. I'll find out what their policy on forced induction is for you. I'd assume that they wouldn't be much different from RACV.

Dan,

So what would need to be done to the car (compliance wise) for someone like myself or someone else that might be interested in taking it off your hands to get it registered and insured?

unique car insurance ??
Torque underwriters

just cars will insure it,
they just need to know the mods are reasonably legal
that is what other ppl do
i know many blown big hp cars that are insured legally that way.

If you werent me shannons will cover the car including all of the mods. As will some others. My age seems to be the biggest problem.

If you were inclined to engineer it you would need to organise an ADR 37 test to ensure it passes the emissions standards for an AU. The ecu can be adjusted and a more restrictive exhaust setup could be fitted to make it equal to that of a stock car.

The place that built it said that tuning it so it will pass emissions should be fairly simple. Thats at Gas research.

I was going to take it up to NSW and get it engineered there as I found an engineer who would accept an RTA epa test which is more lenient and cheaper than the ADR 37 test. But my mechanic fell through and lost my map making the car undriveable for the week I had organised to go. :(

I had planned to do it all again once I can get more time off work, I dont have much leave left.

I think the RWC certificate is still valid for easy transfer into someone else's name if they buy it soon.

Could you take it to gas research & get them to tune it to pass the emissions test for you?

Well couldn't you get them to do that then pass the rta epa test then get it engineered?

Sometimes it sucks buying someone else's modified car.

Yeah I could but I wont have the time to get a week off to go to NSW for aaggges.

I actually had everything booked and ready to go in NSW about a month ago. It was all set, the weekend before the mechanic who was tuning it to pass the test wiped my haltech when his laptop crashed, it took him 2 weeks to recover the map and make it driveable again.

If his laptop didnt crash I wouldnt be having these problems and the car would be fine to insure through just cars. :

I ended up getting a RWC just so I could transfer the rego into my name a few weeks ago. I had been putting it off so it was all legit beforehand.

Now that its in my name im not in a rush to organise it all again. I should move to NSW for a month.

Do you know anyone in nsw that you trust that you could leave the car with? Someone that is near where the test will be done?
