Firstly how do I know I have hit the rev limiter? Secondly will I blow my engine with 6000 rpm gear changes?
You shouldn't - it's only a couple of hundred revs too high, and Ford would have built in a reasonable safety margin. In fact I think the BF 6 speeds allow a bit of over-rev, so it can't be too bad. But if you're revving that high, you are probably dropping out of the powerband anyway.

Ive been keeping an eye on air temperature here and when I get to run by 10 am the air temp based on the past few days will be around 30-34 degrees...

I actually took my car flat past 2nd to third for the first time today and it went to 6200 rpm and changed gear nicely. So I have a feeling AU 1 02 /99 may be a bit different.
My car is pulling well to 6000rpm with no power drop off noticed whatsoever. If it did I would install a grey speedo cog...the next one down. But as I mentioned it wants to keep going.Perhaps Ill upgrade the springs in future so that I can rev it higher.

useless i don't believe your tacho. I will bet its reading high.

you should get it checked who cares the black gear is good and it goes harder thats the point.

Stick it in first and rev slowly till you hit the rev limiter. now if your tachos not reading 5750 or thereabouts its wrong. the limit is hard coded in all the ecus 5800-5900 or thereabouts. not 6200

Just tested my speed limiter it still works!

The poor car is so modded it doesn't really know where it is but it in third it goes to 5600 rpm and then changes into fourth and stops.

My speedo says 197kmh but its reading high of course. Only doing 180 or thereabouts. either way not a big deal for a stret car that runs 145k on the strip anyway

Couldn't agree more jonbays. An AU revs to 5750-5800rpm. In my case my XR's redline/cutout is at 5750rpm. Besides even with a dev 4 cam i highly doubt that max power will be any more than 5300rpm anyways.

In first gear ..holding it it goes to 6100 rpm and hits the rev limiter. In auto mode I fang it ..it goes to 6000 rpm then changes gear...goes to 6200 rpm then changes gear again. I know your cars hit the limiter at the earlier speeds but mine does not.The AU 2 is quoted from factory to be a slower car than the au1.I believe that this and combined with a different speed gear to the au2 wagons indicates that the au 1 was definatley setup differently to au2.Even the coilpacks were different..

au2 vs au1.The au1 was quoted as being quicker.

I have an AU1 Stav.. hard cutout on the revs is 5750... full stop. It was the same for ALL AU's. Either you have a weird ECU or your tacho is way out.

Its a typo. Has to be. Given the Fairmont Ghia VCT and the XR6 VCT are IDENTICAL then there is no way there can be a bore difference.
