my guess is Steve wants the engine crane back :P
use a peice of MDF between the jack and the sump, we've done that previously.

G'day Scott,
Thanks for the free bump, or something. Unfortunately not much has happened with the car. I've got a top condition dizzy as the old one had a bit of play in it, and an XR6 brake booster installed. The only major parts still to come (from memory) are the EF brass radiator and XH tensioner. Dellboy has kindly offered to take care of the bar welding using his sources. The only trouble is I have been screwed around badly over a few matters including my wheels, so I'm working longer hours to pay off my several credit cards and struggling to dedicate any time to this car. PS it's been closer to 2 years since I've had the Laser, though at the time the EA was going fine. I'll post if any meaningful updates occur; the big question is whether I'll make it to Heathcote for August. |

Sounds good mate, well you might like to come with us to Heathcote on August 20.
http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=6755 I'm a bit more optimistic about my attendance, as people have been known to do conversions like this in a weekend. The key will be to dedicate a full day or 2 with good organisation and all parts/tools at hand. I've been focusing on a lot of details to do everything properly while the car is apart, but there isn't far to go now. |

Nice pocket rocket! At the last Heathcote day I attended there was a guy I spoke to who had one of them. Amazing performer, he just needed to work on his launches to approach the 12s.
Just remind me not to race you. |

G'day all,
Pardon the bump, especially when I'm back to ask for advice rather than posting dramatic updates. Jase came around and we got some good work done on the car including attaching the manifolds, installing my EB dizzy at TDC, removing unnecessary components from the engine, and plenty of loom work. Bits of my old EL loom has come in handy yet again for both of us. There's one pic from the day worth showing, from when Jase was finding TDC - the cleanliness of the inside of this motor has to be seen to be believed, in contrast to its exterior which the EA MPI motor would put to shame. That's definitely my style. We hope to start it up for the first time during the next session of working on the car. We'll be using EA heater hoses which I am going to track down. Now the questions, someone was saying that we can use the EA-ED A/C compressor bracket for the AU compressor (to run the ED inlet manifold), but it seems the bolt sizes are different and we'd have to drill out the holes on the compressor. Combined with the very limited availability of affordable XH tensioners, the ED manifold is unfortunately starting to prove more trouble than it's worth. |

hmmm we have got the same drama's Jack, Its a tuff one to make a decision on, Im thinking its easier just to fork out heaps for a new XH tensioner (over 350 I was quoted) and run it with no A/C ,either that or go back to a bbm and run the au gear.
Nice to see its coming along quite well Jack |

hey jack why don't you just use an EA compressor. even if you don't grind the sump down to make the bracket sit flush, just use some spacers and it still fits with the ED manifold.

Cheers for the replies guys. Swoop, I definitely want A/C so I might have to go BBM after all. :( That means buying parts I've already sold off dirt cheap. Mind you I know Dansed's AU has this set-up and it works fine.
Doug, I do still have my EA compressor but I'm sure there are more ribs on the AU one. Jase is going to do some experimenting to see what fits with what and we can proceed from there. Cheers again. |

I looked into that, I'm fairly sure the AU A/C clutch will mount onto one of the EA/ED style compressers.
I have the AU compresser here if you want one cheap. |

Cheers guys, well Jase is looking at doing a serpentine conversion and taking the unused bits from the AU motor. He has a few such parts currently and plans to perform the experiments tomorrow. If I can get away with an AU/EA hybrid compressor then I can still use the ED manifold, we'll see how we go.
Steven, I'm not sure if I will use BBM but I'll discuss that with you if I do. By the way, can anyone at least get trade price on this damn tensioner? :( Cheers guys! Not long to go now. |
