I'm pretty sure in WA they can take the vehicle that you are driving regardless...

Hmmm well im always coping ИИИИ from people saying "drive safe or you'll have the cops on you all the time", and I do...I always reply with "I Don't do anything wrong and so I've got nothing to worry about"...Same applys here IMO.

I took a couple for a drive when we were searching for a car for my gf. They aren't too bad. One was very nice. But wtf is with having the cruise control where it is? It makes no sense!

New hoon laws?? great !!!!!!! If an officer catches u up here he/she will most likely be handing out canaries to modified vehicles. Although if they can't find a defect the'll make one like shake ur battery till the support breaks etc... Its happened before!!!!

Now my concern is that if your having a little squirt through a couple of gears in a quiet street and an officer sees you and you dont get away; instead of receiving a fine and demerit points that is classified as hooning and my car will be impounded???
Then i think thats bullИИИИ !!!!!

Mate then dont have a "squirt" through a bloody street. People die, and until it happens to someone close to you then you will never understand.

And they already hand out canries quite regularly so no change there.

I have no issue with people speeding on a freeway, but in streets!!

I don't see a problem with giving it some gas through first and second gear on a quiet road when no-one is around. But letting it rip through a suburbian street is another thing

If your spirits are crushed after 1 post and you have given up then perhaps you should be driving a magna.

I live in thornlie just down the raod from ya, and like you say its not a great area. My car recently (for the last 4 months) has had a huge hole in the extractors (3 cyl not connected to the other 3) the car is illegally low (just) has big rims and I drive reasonably quick. Btw I'm 24, so not on P's but don't look old either.

Cartz:
I've never been defected, nor called a hoon, nor had my car taken away. These laws are to stop people from getting killed. I drive down the freeway everyday from basically one end to the other (I goto uni in Joondalup if anyone knows where that is) and I don't get picked on...why...coz I don't bust it sideways at every set of lights, don't have my seat back so far I can't reach the steering wheel, and generally drive like a normal person only a little quicker. If you look like a nob, with 30 of your mates hanging out the windows drinking beam and coke :sm_headba , then yeah I'm pretty sure your going to get done. However with the runs on the board here in WA, I'de say you'll be fine if you're even a remotely reasonable driver, case in point most of my friends drive nice cars (local and import) and drive fast and not one has had a car impounded.

Whatever your smoking - stop, be less paranoid

Yeah, awesomely mature outcome there. It is easy to organise an "event", you need to talk to people you know, gather them together, talk to the skid pan people and organise a time. However in saying that, it is difficult to get the club respect, etc... Why reinvent the wheel? Surely there is a car club that services "Shepp"?

And in any instance, don't you go around bandying that guilt trip crap on us. If it take you to be shot down on an Internet forum because you don't like what people say, and this causes you to want to get rid of your Ford, well so be it. I hope you enjoy the Magna, and the fruits of V6 front wheel drive technology.

I also fail to see here how being a Ford fan was relevant to what you want to do? You could be a Suzuki Mightyboy fan for all it matters, but hey, such is life. Get over it.

Entertainment plus guys - what a way for me to waste an hour in the morning at work.........excellent.

There is nothing new in hoon laws it's just a different name - when i got my licence they couldn't confiscate a car but they could sure make you not use the one you had - slap you with a defect for tyres. Back then you had to take it to the local station to get it removed.

You'd show up with your nice new tyres (or ones borrowed frm a mate) and all of a sudden your exhaust would be too loud then your rear seat bolts would be missing or you'd have a minor oil leak. It could go on forever - and all because you gave the copper a bit of lip when he pulled you over for no reason.......

That's life as a new driver with a bit of pride in your vehicle.........get used to it and minimise the chances of getting done...........

Or sook and buy a Magna..........

*Yawns*

I've been pulled over and had my car fully sussed out, stock as a rock though, but he commented on how my right rear had less tread than the rear left.

I just told me "It's the side it drives on" and left it at that, the tread was legal, just lowish.

Personally, in NSW anyway, it's so freakin tight on us P plates, they're going to inforce two years on L plates (Like, truthfully, I wouldn't have a job if I couldn't drive, I'd loose my freedom etc etc). That means we'd be 18 before we could get our licences. 18 ? That then means we'd be 21 before we got our blacks.

2 years on Ls in bullИИИИ. I'm only 17, and I dont think of myself as a great driver, but I've always had access to cars and had room to drift in an older car. But when I park beside an older lady, I get worried. Watching her back out of the park and I hold my breathe.

I dont like the way that people over 70 can go for thier P plates, but they dont have to preform all the manuvers someone under 70 has to. The older you get, the harder the freakin thing should be, not easier.

I've had about 4 close calls in 3 weeks, none of which were my fault, just random people pulling out infront of me and not looking around to see whats happening.

I know a lot of P platers who aren't hoons, I myself smoke them up on isolated roads, but it's safe when I do it. I'm not an idiot blowing 110 in a 50 zone :/ Or giving it to it around round abouts.

I'm also very annoyed that I was unable to buy a V8 because of the NSW laws. Fair enough on turbos and supercharges, but a V8 isn't _greatly_ more powerful than the 4 liter i6.

We're not allowed any proformance modifications, I'm sure they'd even fine me for having oversized break disks.

But, now, there's a whole new ball game opened up with the limits to a max of an "N/A 6 cyl" car.

So good on em, I'll continue doing internal mods, and if they really wanna be barstards they can do tests, and I'll fight it off in court.

The freedom of P platers in NSW is going to be stomped on over the next months...

17% of road deaths are under 20, I think money could be better spent on the _WHOLE_ driving population.

Personally, I put it all down to

"There's a little politian, whos daughter got hit by a P plater, and how has a little grudge on the entire young population".

Hell, get freaking tough on the morons who create acedents, not me or anyone who is able to drive safely.

I watch the news and it's always "P plater dies, lalala, we need to inforce more laws, cr@p cr@p Cr@p", but when it's someone a little older, the wording is "Tragic car accedent, how bloody sad".

It's the communities view, personally, to slap all these younger drivers with 2 years on L PLATES is a load of ИИИИ.

So I think the police should just catch the people who screw up, not just punish the whole comunitiy

It's 6 months on L's here in Vic, but it's always been age 18 until you can get your P's, with a 3 year probationery period, then full license at 21. I'm pretty sure that's the highest licensing age in the country, but i don't see a problem with it. To be honest there are people my age or older that still aren't mature enough to drive.

well time for my 2 cents!!! i've just had the most productive hour at uni ever reading through this thread!!!

cartz: if you get a magna i assume you will want to modify it, thus attracting attention from the boys/girls (i'm not sexist _2: ) in blue and if you dont wanna modify it just have a stock ford!! plus isn't mitsubishi gonna die after the "DO OR DIE" sale of the new magna thus making a magna (even an old one) pretty stupid to buy?? IMO though they aren't that bad, i have a couple of friends that drive em and they go alright. awsome stock stereo as well!

as someone else said (sorry it was ages ago in the thread and cant be bothered looking back) you need strength in numbers. talk to your friends, get them to talk to theirs, and them to theirs and so on. i can organise a cruise of about 25cars with 1 or 2 hours notice in my area, what could you do with a week!!

i've been pulled over 4 times in 1.5months for "random" license and vehicle checks (one time near nobel maccas on princes hwy on a friday night :Up_to_som ) and you know what i do: get outta the car with my license in hand and have a chat with the copper. they get bored driving round all day/night and are just doing their job pulling me over for a random check. they are completely entitled to do so. everytime the cop says have a nice nite and lets me go. dont stress if you and your friends stay within the road rules the new hoon laws will not affect you.

Good luck mate.
Steve
