I used to own a twin turbo soarer, and i will tell you if you havent been in one-in there day they where one of the quietest smoothest cars i have been in by far!!
Apart from that, ford turbo xr6,smooth,not that noisy, but not loud, nice leather seats, went in nearly current model supercharged MERC,didnt like it all, ride harsh, engine gutless, interior bland, the other one which was pretty good was about a 2001 fairlane ghia ,full leather, nice ride, very nice interior! anyway tell me your comments? i mean mid to large size cars-not talking about sports cars, ITS LUXURY CRUISING I WANT!! cheers mark |

I wouldn't say its the best I've been in, but my BA Ghia was a beautiful car to cruise in.
At one point I was going to trade it in on a BMW worth similar money at the time ($30k) - looked at a couple of E39 5 series and E46 3 series. they were nice cars with a fairly solid feel about them but when I got back in the Ghia I was surprised to notice that it left the bmw's for dead in almost every area except maybe the solid quality feel. much more comfortable & better specced. I used to often be impressed what a nice car it was for the price. only thing missing was 2 extra cylinders but i might just find another one soon with a v8 - should be perfect, or probably look for a xr8 with the leather and premo sound and all that... |

Has to be for me the 04' Mercedes Benz S430 my mates Dad used to have. Absolutely fantastic! he's got a brand new BMW X5 TD now, and that is probably a close second, even though at idle its a little truck like.
Might I just ad, that NO falcon have I ever driven could I call the smoothest most comfortable thing. Dads 6 Speed Auto XR8 is pretty impressive, as is the Typhoon 6speed auto I've been in, and they are very much getting there, but I'd have to say HONESTLY if we were talking Falcons, they don't and have never come ANYWHERE near the euro offerings until BF lobbed with the ZF. Now they're half getting somewhere.... |

My dads old Merc S320 W140 model, is the quietest and most comfortable car that I have been in. There is barely any wind or engine noise thanks to double glazed windows and merc engineering. The ride is perfect, comfortable and absorbant but not overly soft and floatly like the non XR BA falcons. 10 times more comfortable and refined than my old BA Mont.

Victory is mine in the words of Stewart Griffin. Ive driven the quietest car in the world, a 2001 model Lexus LS430.
Didnt like the car though, sure its full of gadgets and is deceptively fast but it felt like a BIG car and felt very disconnected, plus it doesnt have the street cred of say a 72 Ford LTD Galaxie. I driven plenty of big cars but it felt disconnected. But yeah its about the smoothest car you could think of for highway travel.

V12 jaguar, wow, except I thought the steering was a little too light especially at high speeds. Nice car but.

I would have to say 1990 Lexus LS400, even compared to the Falcons and Commodores of today it still out does them for refinement and build quality.

My brother is a parts manager at a Mercedes panel beaters and works around the corner from where I work. He gets to drive plenty of late model Mercs for warranty issues. If he gets anything good and is passing by my work he sometimes picks me up. The best thing I have been in, and probably will ever be in, is a Maybach, it is just in a class of its own, I could live in the back.

My old 6.9 Benz with it's over engineered suspension rode extremely well over rough surfaces but I would agree with others, Lexus and Mercedes-Benz take the cake, Ford just doesn't deserve to be mentioned.

Had the pleasure of spending 2 days behind the wheel of (a friends) S600 Merc in the States last year, now that is as they say 'in a class of its own'. A 6.0lt V12 that was so quite you had to tap the throttle and watch the tach to see if its still running. I havent driven the latest LTD/Failane range but I have driven the V series Caprice and while they are very, very good (and without doubt a class above anything coming out of the Broadmeadows plant at the moment) they are still a long way short of the best from Europe or Japan. I also had a quick spin in a 2 year old Caddy CTS and while they are satin smooth with plenty of go they are way to soft and kind of make you feel like youre driving around in a lounge chair, I don't rate them in this comparison.

I don't have a wide experience of riding in cars.
We had a tractor in the XF Wagon and the ride in that thing was terrible. Bumpy, seats were poo (we had the pov pack -old man didn't believe in luxury) and squeaks ahoy! In 1994 the old man had a company car for personal use and he went overseas for 2 months, so for 2 months we had a TR/S Magna. At the time, I remember it being a bloody awesome ride and quiet too. I will admit that it was fair new. Not sure if it was a 4 or 6 cylinder. I have been in a C200 Kompressor and will admit that although the old adage suggest you get what you pay for, it is not always the case. The engine was dead, interior was boring as, ride was bumpy and seats were like stone. Not a nice car. I have been in Fairlanes before. They were taxis, but they were nice. AU Taxis and BA taxis. Either way, nice vehicles inside. Pity the BA Fairlane looked like dog droppings smeared all over the wall. |

My mates BMW 760 V12 is up there, next best thing to a lear jet with so many gizmos. Man those massaging heated seats are something.
Another mate has a new S65 AMG s-class Mercedes, more space age then gents club, but the fastest sedan I have ever been in. Have to agree with RPO83 on the 450 SEL 6.9 Mercedes, years ago my old man had one. Lets just say it wasn't a slow conveyance. Dry sumped and a huge (buy todays standards) fuel tank, both of which were needed... I certainly won't leave my current steed out, the old BA GT with those leather seats is still a comfy way around town or interstate. P.S. Mongoose10, pretty sure the '72 Galaxie had the 400 2 barrel, not the 390. I had one for a while. A great mobile couch that's for sure.

I haven't been in the latest exotics but for overall smoothness it would have to be the Jaguar XJ's.

I still believe that for the price you pay, Ford and Holden, despite their issues are still a decent car. My old man always goes back for Aussie built because he doesn't fall for all that "European" crap. People like "Peugeots" but I hear time and time again that they're terrible. But it's the ticket that comes with it. So while I will say that a Falcon or Holden are not the pinnacle of quality, they're decent in their own way. |

My VL. **Cough**
Nah probably when my uncle bought his new BA XR8 in 04. I had never really been in a new car before, so it's probably flawed, because a new XR8 wouldn't be very high on the list, compared to the world's best, but for Aussie cars, I loved it. No idea what it's like now though. |

I recently got to drive the new Lexus GS Hybrid model. You actually canīt hear it run as the engine only kicks in when you really move.
It does 0 to 100 in about 5.7 seconds. Not bad for an NA V6. The ride was beautiful, firm but very responsive. They actually donīt have any gear change so the engine revs to a certain point and then just stays there.. really wierd at first as you expect a bit of a jolt from the up change but nothing..... very smooooooth |

I haven't been in too many nice cars actually, but the top of the line would be a 10 seater BA Ford LTD I6 Limo. It floated on air.

1999 E55.. The most amazing car I've ever driven. I'd still get one in a heartbeat to this day.
