Default Badges on cars they don't belong to. Eg, XR6 badges on a Futura

Hi All,

Let me just start by saying I'm not giving anyone crap here or trying to cause trouble, I'm purely curious and looking for some mature responses.

I have an EL Futura that when I bought it, had XR and Tickford badging all over it, even the interior had the badging. I see this same thing all the time, and while it's not my cup of tea, I'm just wondering why people do it.

For example, say you put XR badging on your glovebox, while the rest of your interior is just the standard base model stuff, do people like the look of that?

I know that every time I hop in my car and look at the XR6 badge in the plain Futura interior, it simply annoys me more than anything! The exterior badges I just found embarassing and ripped them off as soon as I got the car.

Anyhow as I said, just curious (and bored!).

Thanks,

Justin.

PS I know the car I've mentioned isn't an AU, but I think if I start the thread elsewhere, it'd end up closed as it would no doubt turn into an insult competition.

Each to their own mate, why people do it is anyone's guess but if you own the vehicle do as you please as far as I'm concerned, a non issue really.

Cheers.

if you paid for the badge and like it go for it......theres more tickford badges on forte's than there is on XR's and tickford enhanced fairmonts

but i see no drama in doing so, theres prob more "replica" xw/y GT's with the decals and badging..

end of the day if its a ford with ford badging its still a ford......but at least get the power to go with the badge

guilty here of doing tickford badging.....all be it under bonnet and only on the intake as its from an xr8. but thats all im doing. i only did it because i like the wings, i wanted better breathing (despite the fact it gets resticted with the LPG mixer!!) and its under the bonnet. i have removed the forte badge, mainly because it was in the wrong position, but i wont be placing other badges on it. even when i redo the interior, there wont be other badges going in there. but thats just me, its not an XR, it doesnt need the badges

Each to there own. If you want to put XR badges or Tickford wings on a Futura then feel free. Personally I never would as I believe Tickford wings are for Tickford cars but its not like I'm going to go and pick a fight about it. I just smile to myself and get in my real Tickford.
I spent a lot of years saving up to get a car with wings, I'm satisfied with what I have. If others prefer to just put wings on something else and that satisfies them then I say good on them.

some people are after looks, while others are after performance. imo badges can do for appearance what modifying the stock parts of your engine does to performance. Ive noticed alot of begrudging happens when someone puts badges on a car thier not from, and while Its not for me and Im not overly cocerned either way, I have a simple analogy to help explain it to the people that cant understand why it happens.

3 blokes walk into a bar.........
- 1 bloke is ugly as **** but hes the hevyweight boxing champ (the supercharged sleeper),
- ones your regular everyday joe whearing thongs +stubbies (your standard forte),
- and ones the babyfaced boy next door who puts on some pants and a shirt but is week as **** (dressed up forte, otherwise stock).

Who ends up with the chicks at the end of the night you ask?
I put my money on the dressed up forte (aka week as **** babyface), and to me, this seems to be a good enough reason to dress up and badge your car.
Even if he gets flogged by the heavyweight, he'll still probably go home with the girl.

Power might score you cred with the blokes, but who do you realy want to impress at the end of the night???

(that'll stirr the pot!)

I have xr6 badges on my futura and I am going to take them off. Ford or tickford never got close to producing a na six with Head, cams, xorst, diffs, stall converters that half of us do have. In saying that I like the tickford wings because they look good.

The xr6 badges also give others the impression it is a tickford or xr6 when I overtake them. This is why they should know its a futura not some ford suped up car.It is a stav suped up car.

It's not something that's limited to XR's or even just badges, I have seen so many Fairlanes getting around fitted with LTD grilles and bonnet ornaments... looks the part from the front but they seldom change the tail lights and boot garnish to match. I don't really have an issue with badges, grilles etc, after all it's your car and you can put whatever badges etc you please on it, as they say, each to their own, that said though, slapping V8 badges on an I6 or Tickford badges on a Forte is just gonna make you look like a tool to anyone who knows better. Personally I agree with GlennBA no badges is the best way to go... keep em guessing.

How much do you want for them Stav? Are they the same items that Private9 just sold? He sold them for $20 for the pair.

Are the ones you're selling the same as these?

I remember seeing an extra on, it may have been " Mischeif 3000 " actully.. I believe it was a mustang or something, anyway a domestic american car with a skyline " GTR " badge on it. Of course they began to talk to the guy about it.. total idiot plays it up, calling his car a " special factory model " or whatever.

I actully dont mind tickford badges on base cars, that if the moneys been spent and the car looks the goods. Whose to say, they didnt spend $30 to a tickford snorkel???

I Am with onfire, I put the full xr50 bodykit on my AU, debadged it and found it left holes behind, JC was kind enough to snail mail me a badge to cover it when we were swapping steering wheels.
I have the tickford snorkel too

Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. My XR8 is a genuine one, I know it but I'm not overly fussed if someone wants to badge theirs as one.

Iv seen base model Civics with VTEC plastered all over them. It doesnt help when you can pick up these badges at the local autobarn.

Whatever happened to those " shopping list " stickers, that were big a few years back?

Personally it annoys the hell out of me when people badge GLi's/Fortes as an XR. Beats the hell out of me what goes through some peoples heads when they decide to do that, but as mentioned, each to their own, I'll just point and laugh at them! :

If they go through with the full kit for example, and a few mods.. I see no harm in doing a mock-up. However, the price of an AU Xr6 doesnt make one buying a real one unreachable, when you take into account the time and money spent on building a mock Xr6 from a Forte. Front bar, kit, wheels, suspension, exhaust, headers, cai, paint, etc..

In that case its a little different, theres replica XY GT's everywhere. It just bugs me when you see Tickford or XR8 badges right next to the Forte or GLi badge. Dont even get me started on fake bonnet scoops and chrome hub caps! LOL.
