Mines not an AU but basically the same motor. I'm running twin 2 1/4", mandrel bent in s/steel, IMO its the best for performance, providing excellent low-mid range and also making good power up top, and still gives an awesome crisp note. Other may have varying opinions, the above is just mine.

i had a twin 2 1/4 cat back on the car when i got it. it sounded great when you were driving the car hard, but when cruising it was quiet. since then it has rusted out and i replaced it with a 3" lukey mandrel bent sytem. the new one absolutely grows compared to the old one. it has a much deeped idle and it just roars into life when u drive the car hard. i also installed some pacemaker tri 'y' extractors at the same time. and as most on here have mentioned i did loose a little down low torque, but have gained in the mid - high rev range.

For me genie custom extractors and a full 3 inch mandrel bent system.. Genie tornado muffler.
Very deep note, i love it and compared to others , no droning at all. I went back to a 3 inch after i lost hp from a 2.5 system

Single 2.5" Herrod system for me, even Holden boys compliment me on how good it sounds. HM Headers made a post in their section not long ago saying that after all their R&D they found the 2.5" single to have the best gains, you lose a few HP at peak power but you gain more in the low end power and torque.

I love the sound of the twin 2.5" exhaust on my EB, I just wish it had a bigger cam in it.....need more lump :P The 3" single on my ute sounds good, although the engine combo is very different to the EB which is basically stock. Might have to invest in a good dual exhaust for my ute once its back on the road.

You can't beat the sound of a full twin 2.5 inch system coming off a set of pacemakers...

I like the exhaust on my ute (difilippo 4 into 1 extractors, 2.5 into 3" single) sounds real tuff, isnt overly loud and works real well, even though a lot of people say they dont work!!

depends how loud u want it buddy, 2 1/4 twin system with a decent set of mufflers i.e magnaflows will have a nice note yet still be "quiet" without any droning.... it all depends on how quiet u want it in the car... a twin system really has to be the way to go........

I like a twin 3" on a serious 347 :P
Definately a twin either way for best sound, probably a twin 2 1/2" with x pipe and twin 2 1/4" outs- although I love the sound of no balance or x pipe Personally, I just can't go past the sound of Lukey race mufflers

it all comes down to personal preference. i had a twin 2 1/4 sytem on the car when i bought it. it was an aftermark cat back and it sounded awesome when you was driving the car hard but was like a sewing machine at idle. so i went with the lukey 3" mandrel bent single system. it has an awesomely deep idle and nice cruise sounds. and when you drive it hard it just gets better. it doesnt drone at all.
i agree with you jim, every system i have heard with the lukey sport/race mufflers sounds great. |
