Hi Guys,
I've recently finished uni, got a job and lashed out on a new(ish) car ('05 BA2, E-Gas sedan, 45000km... good stuff ) Anyway, I need to work out what to do with my old car..... 1980 244DL Volvo, 4 on the floor, 4cyl carb... It's still registered (until mid December) but wouldn't pass a RWC, and it has a few issues (ie no windscreen wipers) so I wouldn't really want to push anyone to drive it daily unless they were as good with machines as me (I'm an engineer). I've called around some wreckers - some don't want it, others will give me $50 if I deliver it. It's a bit sad getting rid of your first car, but even sadder when it only fetches enough to buy a carto... The tyres are probably worth that :P Let alone roof racks etc. Has anyone got suggestions for good places to sell parts cars around Brisbane, or tips for trading post etc? |

I'd need a RWC to transfer the rego though wouldn't I? I don't think it's worth fixing it so it'd pass.

where are you located??
I know in Melbourne there are pleaty of places that will come take it. I had an old 81 laser, car removal place came took it and left me with $180 cash for it. I kept the plates and cashed the remaining rego too. got just over 100 bucks for that too. : |

I'm in Brisbane - The places I've called said the price of picking it up would be the same as what they'd give me for it, and only $50 if I deliver.
I might look into ebay - that way I might get some cash, or if that fails I can try something else. |

They advertise a pick up and cash offer, if the weight is an issue, as in too light, they arent thinking Volvo, those things are heavy as. Plus dont let it go with the rego, cash that in at the DOT. Just shove it in the trading post for a couple hundred, hippies and tourists like these things. Popular with people from Byron Bay area too, and they go as far as Brisbane for cars. |

If you know someone with a farm, give it to them for a paddock basher. Lots of fun and then you can shoot it and burn it in the end. Good way to get rid of it.

Contact a youth group or TAFE that do motor trades so they can work on it.
Or donate it to the Fire Brigade, they're always looking for cars to cut up for training, and what a good way to get rid of another Volvo off the roads, just joking.

Ship it to the guys at top gear! they'll put it to good use! (but to be a little more serious, try and offer it to TAFE, they are always looking for vehicles for students to practise on)

Potential sprint/race car? 24 hour relay team back up car? Demo derby?
I’ve seen people have as much fun on a track with a $500 paddock basher as some people have had with $500k Ferraris.

I second the ebay idea.
I flogged my EA wagon on there. It was in average condition with 308,000 kms on it and had a cracked head and some rust. It sold for $435. It wasn't even worth that in my opinion but he has since got it on the road and I see it regularly. No rego inspections over here though. |

If you don't want to make money from it, tie it to a bike chain and put a sign saying, "Please don't steal me".
But seriously, Ebay it, even for a couple of hundred bucks.

Paddock bomb?
Few years back we made good use of a pretty well off TE Cortina and practised some rally driving, couple of days later and much endurance testing the car lost a bout with a tree stump, not to mention what then got thrown at it |

You could use it for storage like a garden shed. depending on how much storage space you have it could be worthwhile to keep for such a purpose.
ur an engineer mate, u earn enough, i wouldnt even worry about it. Id just drive it down a ditch somewhere and leave it. |

Hey TripleJ85, try contacting yeronga TAFE they tried getting a neighbour to donate his old toyo which is still sitting in his front yard.If you want to sell you have two options get safety certifate, or deregister it and sell.QLD law requires a sc for all registered vehicles, other wise you get caught $375 fine if you get caught and still have to fix it.A apprentice I know of one of his mates got caught : Be paitence you will get rid of the volvo.

Do you want to make some money?
There was a guy going around with an old Volvo a while ago to all the local shows/festivals/carnivals and you paid like 2 bucks to go in there with a mallet/hammer and smash the crapola out of the thing for a few minutes. No kidding, it was the longest line out of anything all day the two times I saw it.
