Default Need Help Designing an Intake Pipe!!!!

well as some of u may know i got myself a 90mm maf which is actually 100mm so i need to make myself a new intake pipe.
this is how it is right now.

i i want to make it flow better so i want to go from the top throttle body to the maf/airbox then come from the other throttle body to the pipe.
now i either need a 90degree bend off the top throttle body to the aibox or 2 45degree bends.
the only thing is using 4 inch piping its not gonna have alot of room.
ur thought/comments will be muchly appreciated.
cheers josh.

Gawd i suck at the drawing

from what i understand you wanted a 4" collectpor at the MAF?

well i would run two 3" pipes from the T/Bs and let them joing in a nice flowing collector just before the MAF (i know the pic is a little abrupt in its flow design). does that make sense?

so dont run 4 inch piping i was thinking that as i recon it might be to much air for it.
so u recon run 3 inch piping to the throttle bodies and into a 4 inch collector at the maf or just get a 3-4inch reducer and judt run full 3 inch piping?
cheers josh.

yer thahat i sorta tried to draw lol ...

i would where the two 3" pipes join expand it to 4" ... there is no such thing as too much air, however the TBs outer dianmeter appear to 3" so the individual runner to teh TB doesnt need to be larger than that.

the maf doesnt have to be close to the throttle bodies just in the normal spot and inside diameter is 65mm i think they are.
outside is 3inch.
ahh yeah i get what u mean eveilchief ill have to get some 90degree 3 inch bends maybe a 45 and some straight 4 inch.
what do u recon 2 90degrees or a 90 for the top and a 45 for the bottom?
how would i get them to make it go from 3 inch to 4 inch?
cheers josh.

id probably see if u could get away with 2 45deg from both TB, let the top one run as far to the right hand side and the stright it up with anotehr 45deg to face straight forward, where as teh front TB run a 45 deg and let that pipe join at the same angle into trhe top runner.

the way i would join it to 4" is. get a piece of 4: pipe now to make two 3" pipes into single 4", i would cut one 3" pipe on 45deg angle so that 2" remain of that pip e... ah biugge rit ill draw it ...

ahh yeah now i get ya looks easy when explained properly lol.
so u recon 2 45degree bends on the top on and 1 on the bottom one?
is that so it flows nicely?
sorry im not so good with making intakes flow good this is the first one i have ever made.
well ill order some bends and stuff and get into it on the w/e most likely.
i need to make intake pipe and make a custom airbox before my tune on 28th of this month.
cheers josh.

yer pretty much

btw use S/S for intake piping, mild can flake internally over time due to humidity. as for enclsure have a look at the BA XR/GT Pod filter setups ;)

now thinking about it, the GTs use a 3" intake pipe, but u may be able to reuse the POD enclosure and host a 4" POD in it

i was going to use alloy for the piping or should i use steel?
so will it be much gain using 45degrees as its going to cost about $60 more but then again i do want it to be good?
and yeah i have a pod style airbox but deicded to make a custom airbox so itll flow better or do the pod style box's flow pretty well?
cheers josh.

havent heard anything about the Pod style ones for that matter, but i guess a custom one will be cheaper by the end of teh day ... i was suggesting S/S as its easier to weld compared to alloy. you can use a 90deg bend just cut in half ... gives u two 45s ;)

well rang midway metals all up its going to cost about $116 thats 2 90degree bends 1 mtr 3inch straight and 1 metre 4inch straight.
they only sell the pipe by the meter so thats why it is so expensive.
thats not that bad the alloy was going to cost me about that and this way i have a mate who can weld it all for me instead of sending it to a mates mate.
evilchief what do u think about mild steal coated in alum or something.
i went to an exhaust joint and they said theyd do it but he doesnt want to make the collector he is trying to find one but he will be using mild steel coated in some alum spray or something like that?
i think ill do it myself.
cheers josh.

You can always use the leftover as tailpipe. 4" tail would look great.

i think the spray they are talking about is cold galv. again it will flake eventually, i wouldnt do it. you will have heaps of left over piping in the end thats for sure lol. id just polish the S/S and it will keep shiny for bucketloads longer than Alu, as it wont oxidize with the air like alu does.

nothing feels better than doing something urself ;)

well went to order the piping today as i was to busy last week and they have decided in the space of a wekk the dont do meter lengths they only do it in lengths of 6 meters.
so ive been ringing heaps of places today to find piping i found 1 place that will do 1 meter of 4 inch and 2 meters of 3 inch and the 2 90degree bends but for $165.
ill ring a few other places tomorow and see how i go.
cheers josh.
