well it looks like another strict bathurst
Petrol heads will have to survive on a slab of beer a day at next month's Bathurst 1000 car race. Police checkpoints will confiscate "excess alcohol" as motor racing fans descend on Mt Panorama, in NSW's central west, for the October 9-12 event. For the second year running, NSW Police and V8 Supercars have agreed to limit the amount of beer, wine and spirits taken into the racing precinct. Adults can take one case (24 cans) of full-strength beer or one block (36 cans) of light beer each day. Restrictions also apply to one case (24 cans) of pre-mixed drinks or one cask of wine, up to four litres. Combinations are not allowed, and no glass containers are permitted in camping areas or within the race precinct. Police said the limits were fair and would reduce the risk of alcohol-fuelled violence and anti-social behaviour. "These restrictions are very generous," Chief Superintendent Steve Cullen said in a statement on Sunday. "Anyone who needs to drink more than 24 cans of beer in a day to have a good time is not welcome. "This is a sporting event unlike any other with 30,000 people living in campsites around the Mt Panorama circuit for up to a week prior to the actual race. "It's important we work hand in glove with event organisers to ensure the safety of racegoers." The measures follow the success of last year's security operation, Supt Cullen said. Police and security personnel will set up checkpoints at every entrance area to the race circuit. Excess alcohol will be stored by event staff and be available for collection the following day. |

Sounds fair to me.
Anyone needing to drink more than a slab a day has a far bigger "life" issue than these restrictions anyway..

What do-gooder rubbish.... I have been going to the Bathurst 1000 for years and I am yet to have seen any alcohol fuelled violence.

Great idea. The grubs who need to drink more shouldn't be there anyway. Stay at home and camp in the backyard instead.

That article doesn't make it clear about General Admission vs campers. Last year GA were allowed nothing. Had to pay rediculous prices and drink inside a cage!

I think you have all missed the point i was trying to get across its not about trying to drink a slab a day ,its the fact that you have to go into town each day to buy more ,and hope you are under the limit .
There are a lot of people who go and have a good time and drink who arent grubs or idiots as some people think on here there is only a handful of idiots who carnt control themselves to be honest its a bit blown out of portion its is no where near as bad as it was in the early 80s I think society needs to harden the f#!k up ing_sm |

If people are going to drink themselves into a coma for 3 days straight how on earth are they going to even remember they were there let alone enjoy THE EVENT... which after all is why id assume people go there, you know, for the motoracing?? its a race!! not octoberfest....
If this weeds out the tools and clears the event up for the real motorsport enthusiasts who can enjoy a drink without needing to drink constantly for 3 days straight than its a good thing, ive seen how bad it gets there, id never take my wife or family. Oh, the other thing is the article does say: "Excess alcohol will be stored by event staff and be available for collection the following day". In any event how hard is it to sobber up for the morning if you need to go to town... :

one slab should be enough - in years gone by they would take more than one in and still make their way down the mountain to get more. as a non drinker and having been their with women and kids, i think that is more than enough. having no more than 24 cans in a day should not affect ones enjoyment, but even 24 in one day can affect others enjoyment

A slab a day per person ......... bloody fair and reasonable! I can't get through a slab ina day no matter how hard I try.
How easy would it be for them to not allow any in and forced to buy from the sponsered sites like so many other events in plastic cups with a limit? | [/url] |

24 cans a day is a hell of allot of alcohol for anyone, (apart from the fact that the organisers will hold excess for you onsite till the next day) i cant see why its such a big issue to dry out over night and for a few hours the next morning if you need to go to town.....

1 slab per person per day is fair. If you need to drink more then take a non-drinker and drink their slab too. When you run out and (hopefully wake up!) then they can drive you to town to get some more. Besides, it says that you can take in a slab of pre-mixed. So why not jst get a slab of jimmy, put on your ford gear and cheer your guts out.

Personally i don't drink during sporting events, i just enjoy my drink afterwards.. that said i can see why allot of people do enjoy drinking during an event, and there's nothing wrong with that. The problem at events like bathurst is the drinking and associated antics of quite a few tend to ruin the experience for many others, and take prority over the actual reason for being there.. THE RACING!!!!....

As a non drinker myself, I think it's a great idea, the sooner they ban it all together the better,
I know that's never going to happen, but I just don't understand why people need alcohol and in such large amount's to have fun. I don't mind people having a drink or two, hell all my mates do, but me personally, I don't drink, it's just me. |

I love my beer but a slab for the day really doesn't seem to be a problem to me. Remember why you are there in the first place.

I'm with the coppers on this one. At least they are going to hold it for the next day. Wonder what or if they will charge for the privelige and what will happen to the unclaimed "prizes"? :

thats the same as last year ,and it was fine by me .but for you people who keep judging me gives me the s...ts ,away from the race i can easily drink 2 cases and be responsible ,their are yobbos at races who just happen to be easy drunks and destructive by nature ,at such family events i agree whole heartedly, the drive to town thing makes it dangerous, the women found that out when they did the run each day.they dont charge to hold your grog ,but it does just sit in the shed at the gate .

I was going to say another case of the actions of the few spoiling it for the many.... but I don't this would affect too many. And Blueprint.... remember a zero alcohol limit for you - and random tests can (and sometimes are) done. :togo: |

great news 24 cans is actually too much this is a car race not a pi$$up it is supposed to be a family event and drunken idiots should not be encouraged or tollerated. anyone needing more than this limit has a serious problem 24 cvand in a 24 hour period is drinking way above harmful levels

Don't get me wrong here. I don't condone their behavior in most ways but I like to look at it from both sides. This race has been a p*ssup and an annual ritual to these people for the last 45 years and all of a sudden a bunch of do-gooders who wouldn't know the difference between a Falcon or a Commodore if it weren't for the big stickers on the windscreen saw there behavior on the news. It reminds me of schoolies week up here, they only film one incident and put it on national TV and everyone burrs up. These people look forward to a big party where they could drink around like minded people. I can understand why they would have the sh/ts up. There is at least 60% of the track (eg. The chase, pit straight and the bottom of mountain straight ) which is family orientated where people won't stand for their sh/t. Watch the race from there like I do. If you go up to Reid or McPhillamy then be prepared to see drunk campers doing what they have for over four decades.
What I'm getting at is I wouldn't like it if I went camping, drinking and listening to loud music somewhere all my life in a place where it had never been an issue and all of a sudden Mr and Missus Stickuptheirarse come along and p/ss and moan about it. Thanks for listening to my opinion as I did yours. |

I repeat this is not "do gooders " causing it is drug f#$%ed idiots who have caused trouble in the past. 24 cans in 24 hours is generous to say the least and anyone needing more needs professional help ( those needing the 24 probably do too)
