Buying at an Auction?

Hi all , Im looking at buying my next car at a auction as you can save heaps. The car will still have 1 year warranty so, mechanically im not to concerned and i have read up what to look out for with this model car in the defect area. also that some cars include GST and some dont ,but is stated.
i was hoping for some tips and anything else to be careful of.
Also if I win and the car and it needs full reg is it a mater of just getting a road worthy, pay the reg and its on the road? Or Do I have to pay on road cost as well or is that inclusive if the car is sold, GST is inclusive.(hope that makes sense)

If your state has stamp duty you will have to pay that as well.
Most auctions have a buyers premium which will be either % of sale price or a fixed rate.
Don't start bidding as soon as item comes up... they will start at lets say 15k.
If no one bids yell out an offer of say 12k. They will normally start at 12k if you say that.
If you reach the highest bid it maybe defered(hasn't reached reserve).
They will then tell the seller and they will either accept or throw an offer at you.

Mate just go down to the auctions for a few weeks prior to you wanting to buy. See how it works, grab a stock sheet from the reception desk and walk around noting what cars are generally going for.

Just a question on payment from what I have read you have to pay a deposit on the day and then pay in full by 4pm the next day. I have to get a loan for some of the car and I will pay by cash for the rest, will the take a split payment?

There are certainly some great bargains to be had at the auctions.

I did a delivery to a motor trimmer today that bought a March 2007 build BF XR8
sedan, EX cop car. 31,000k's ZF 6speed looked a realy clean and tidy car.

Wait for it. $16,500. + buyer fee

i payed 20k for 12/06 bf mk2 xr6t found it on web at a auction place inspected vehicle as best as i could had 21900 as price offered 20k pre auction was accepted and paid a $500 fee to take it out of auction (then refunded on purchase) worth doing saved going to auction and trying to bid on vehicle had two weeks rego payed stamp duty at rta and had to pay rego two weeks later (killed the bank balance) didnt require a pink slip (most gov veh rego expires june) buy the same vehicle private and your looking at 26k

Its seems the auction is the go and I should pick up a BF XR6T for around $18-20k if you go of what the trade in value is. Now its just a waiting game (which is the hardest bit), I missed 2 last week and one was an EGO grey :(

NSW ex-police (including HWP) and other government vehicles are auctioned through www.manheimfowles.com.au every Tuesday at 9.30am. However, as mrgo40rd has stated they are available for purchase pre-auction over the preceeding weekend. The pre-auction prices will be on the website from this Saturday morning.
The listings for manheimfowles across australia are also on www.governmentauctions.com.au with fixed prices and approximate auction prices for other vehicles on the list.
