I belt mine around the city, it uses about 8.5 on short trips. Long trips, it REALLY depends on your speed. At a steady 100 it used 6.0 flat, at 120 it was 7.8, and 140+ it was 9.5. (all on the same run)

The fuel consumption gap between big cars and little ones is a lot smaller on long trips, because instead of using all your fuel accelerating a weight (obviously it takes more fuel to get a big car moving), you're using your fuel to keep momentum against wind resistance (which is pretty similar for a big car and a little one).

Some dialogue after a run to the speed limit and stopping for the next lights:
Commy: Is that an XR5 turbo?
Me: Nope 2.0L N/A
Commy:

Having said that you really need to pedal it.

^^ as extremist said ^^

In my 5spd petrol, I get high 5's to low 6's for highway driving. I've never gotten worse than 8's out of a tank. A few times I've made 700km out of a tank (<50 litres) but have never done a long highway trip anyway to see the absolute best economy it would get.

I've got 50,000km on mine and it's averaging mid 7's for all driving. It gets commuted into Brisbane 40 kms each way a couple of times a week and general driving around for my two kids.

The day after I got my 08 LT CL we drove from Townsville to Adelaide and back.... ended up getting over 800km from a tank sitting on about 115 most of the way. Ended up being about 3 and a half tanks down there and the same back up.... was awesome driving nice and responsive even in top gear and overtaking was suprisingly good.... dropped it back to 4th I think once the entire trip.

So going on averages we were getting about 6.8l/100km on the highway

and around town I usually clock about 600 a fortnight and thats each tank load....

so going on averages we were getting about 9.1l/100 around town...

Im happy and imagine alot of other people are too!!!

Have a Zetec auto, and my average is usually bang on 7.0l/100kms. I mostly drive on the motorway.

Best I've seen was 5.8 on a run right after refuelling, and went on the highway with quite a bit of running at 90 kmph. Worst mileage was around 9L/100kms with quite a bit of stop/go.

Getting 5.3 to 5.6 with a mixture of city and country driving with 20,000 kms. Has gradually improved with about 6.5 when new. All figures are calculated from actual fuel useage and kms travelled rather than electronic readout

I had a bout of bad economy around town for about 6 months, was getting 8.4 or so.

Reset the ECU and went on a long long drive with the aim for economy (to Melb!), and now getting 7.5 around town.

I average about 8.2 in predominantly city driving, and I'm not afraid to give it a squirt either. For anyone from Melbourne I do the Mt Dandenong trail once a week, and occasionally do the Black Spur, and really push it through those tracks, so it gets a good hit of fuel use at least once a week. Went down to Philip Island a week ago and managed about 6.2 doin ~105 the whole way.

EDIT - It's manual, btw :

The reverse trip, Canberra to Sydney usually sees mid-6s averaging over 109kmh. After Goulburn your coasting downhill back to Syd.

Hi,

I have a Zetec as a company car. generally sits at low to mid 8's. I'm in melbourne, and if it is straight to work and back using the Eastlink freeway for a week, it sits on high 7 's.

if you sit in traffic the fuel usage will go up because its using fuel and not really getting any where.
Reset the fuel usage and let it idle, watch the fuel useage go to 99/100

Do most of you reset the usage before changing from city to country?
