But this one has a bit of a twist....
My son lives in Qld, I live in NSW and I'm giving him my (unregistered) VW Beetle free, nix, no charge. Now, when rego is transferred here in NSW I think a transfer fee is payable which is either based on sale price -in this case nothing- or the market value..... Is this the same in QLD. If so how would you work out a market value for this?......

Market value?
You make it up.... generally if the car is an older one and there isnt a book value just put anything reasonable down. $500 value wouldnt raise an eyebrow... They dont ask for receipts, just a written letter stating your giving the car to your son as proof of ownership should be fine.

Write a reciept for as little as possible as stamp duty in QLD for a 4 pot is 4% of market value. ( a reciept of purchase will be and is considered market value) |

There is no stamp duty in qld for giving a family member a car, just have to fill out a stat dec at transport.
