Default 4L 6 to go?

hey guys picked up a new territory titanium tdci this morning pics on "lets see your territory" and my xr6 thread :P

i was speaking to the salesman and he said that with ford new ecoboost which has similar power to the 4L, ford is thinking of canning the 4L! he said he'd love to see a direct injection or just one with smaller capacity (i agree) however i love the 4L 6 it is time it gets a fuel consumption improvement! however i dont care about the fuel consumption it is clear that alot of aussie families do...

i urge everyone ford forums to get out there and if your considering buying a new car get a falcon or territory something aussie made as its obvious that ford aus needs more sales to go there way!!

dont get some ****** rice cooker or some **** factor euro, you have the great cars here in aus so support your country!!!! :P

Congrats on your new TDCi Territory. Congrats for getting a great car AND as you put it, supporting Australia.

The salesman is part right. The EcoBoost 2.0 I4T is coming Dec/Jan. The 4.0 will be produced until about 2015-16.

Real world fuel consumption of my FG XR6 is quite good. Better consumption is always welcome though!

unfortunately Australia doesn't work in isolation...whatever the latest environmental rules for engines (What are the Euro numbers up to now? 4? 5?), our engines built here, even for virtually only domestic use, have to meet them sooner or later.
You can bet your left one that with the carbon tax and Prime Minister Brown in charge, there will soon be even stircter requirements.

The 4 liter is a great motor. I love the one in our G6E, but it too will be superseded by something in time to come. They can only wring so much efficiency out of a motor economically before it becomes cheaper to replace it with a blank slate new motor. That's what killed the Holden six cylinder red motor. They went to the blue motor with 12 port head, not a major change, but it made it much more powerful and efficient. Then came the black motor, with a better head again and stronger internals. It too was more powerful and better on the juice. Then came the specter of unleaded. The old motor would have just cost way to much to retool and try and make it meet efficiency standards that were coming, so they slotted in the excellent RB30 Nissan six as a stop-gap until the Buick V6 could be adapted in the VN.

Nothing to say it won't happen to Ford too with the 4.0...

Well if we get the 3.5L V6 in the 2011 Mustang it would be nice they produce 225-230Kw.

with a v6 direct injection, there wont be much to differentiate a ford from a holden anymore.

I would lay money of the fact that probably 95% of buyers ask whether the engine is a straight or a V6..."is it a six cylinder?", is as far as they get. Literally, no one cares anymore. Holden does indeed mention "V6" from time to time, but usually they say "powerful and economical six cylinder".

Given that most people hardly open thier bonnet between services, what does it matter what the engine looks like? Beyond cylinder numbers, people usually want to know nothing more than is it cheap to service and economical.
A company doesn't make money focussing on what a minority of buyers want...they make money out of mass sales. Specialist vehicles are an interesting part of the business, but they're propped up by the tens of thousands of ordinary cars they shift to everyday buyers.

Congratulations on the new Territory.

I think the Ford salesman misspoke with regards Ford wanting to replace the I-6 with the Ecoboost 2.0,
it is my belief that Ford are trying to remarket the I-4 turbo Falcon as a midsized car alternative,
not a replacement for those already buying the I-6 Falcon.

If I were a Holden executive (not the car) I would be quietly worried about Omega sales with Ford rolling
out EcoLPI and Ecoboost I-4 (early next year), two strategies that will increase fleet and retail sales
