Default SRT offers up first 2013 Dodge Viper teaser

Quote:
Early last year, Chrysler announced that it would be bringing the Viper back into production, with the brand's performance flagship once again taking its place at the front of the SRT lineup. The next generation Viper won't be unveiled until April at the New York Auto Show, and it looks like Dodge will be doing its best to tease us mercilessly until then with vague sketches of the car. The first has just been posted on the official SRT Facebook page, providing the very first look at the front end of the 2013 Viper. From the silhouette it's hard to really tell what the design will look like, but the overall shape and the hood scoop distinctly remind us of the Viper GTS coupe built from 1996 to 2002.

So, what do we know about the 2013 Viper as of right now? For starters, traction control will be used for the first time in the model's history as mandated by federal law. The powertrain is still unconfirmed, although there are rumors that the V10 could get a bump in displacement to an incredible 8.7 liters.

All of these rumors will be laid to rest come April, but until then we'll just have to settle for the teasers that SRT gives us. We'll be sure to bring you more news on the 2013 Viper as soon as its released, and let us know what you're hoping to see from the new Viper in the Comments.

It's no longer a Dodge Viper. It's an SRT Viper.

And Dodge trucks are now simply Ram trucks. I think Dodge is on the way out.

I wonder if it would be better to join two Pentastar V6s to make a nice V12, then add a few turbos..... I don't think Dodge is going away. New Charger and Durango look terrific.

They said on top gear when reviewing the last one, that it wasn't called a Viper, just a SRT

The Viper IMO is the greatest American muscle/sportscar ever (although the Shelby Daytona is close to perfection aswell). The shape is just sublime and IIRC there was even a TV show that got me hooked on the original RT/10. I also love the original GTS aswell...drool!

I wasnt a big fan when they squared it up a little but it was menacing nevertheless. Even the badge is cool.

I love the viper, i wish they were in AUS at the great price the yanks get them at. As long as it keeps the V10, pitty about adding traction control :P

Yeh, I have looked numerous amount of times at vipers from the states, I want a series 3 or higher, but viper performance only do conversions on series 1&2. They are such a beautiful car.

Plus the conversion is 40k which is worth more than the car, ouch!

Cool cars the Viper, but I find they sound like crap on full noise. I think a V8 with a turbo would make them a much better car imo.

But the monster engine is what makes the Viper unique. Though I do think 3 or 4 turbos with an intercooler, direct injection, and DOHC would do wonders on top of the 8.7!

Theres just so little room under the hood of a Viper and under them will open your eyes to what looks to me always like a job half done. Some of the welding would make you cry if you owned one, and yes I welded for 4 years with CSIRO so I know have a weld should look like and what bird crap is.

Heres one in a friend on mines work shop.

You may not know this, but the show was made BEFORE the car existed.
The vehicle in the show was a 1 off, made specially for the show.
The reaction from the public was that great, they decided to put it into production.
The show could have quite easily been a flop and the car would never have existed.

I got to see the original Viper concept car at the New York International Auto Show in 1990! It had very interesting exhaust headers that weren't on the production version.

I've got an original Viper sales brochure, also.

The Lamborghini V10s I've heard don't sound good.

Remember that I'm an American. I like an OHV (or even Flathead) V8 rumble.

Doubt the TV show would impact the success of the Viper. Show could have been crap wouldnt have made much if any difference IMO.

Looking forward to the new Viper though, after this thread was posted i found myself trawling over the SRT site and youtube.

The show was crap and didn't last (and I really don't think it pre-dated the production car). The car wasn't influenced by the show at all.

8.7 L of V10 to make a mere 295 rwkw....whoopdeedoo ! (60bhp/litre)

my old V10 made 301 rwkw from just 5.0L... (108 bhp/litre)

Torque would be a whole differnt story though.......Viper would effect the Earth's rotation ?

You'd think they would at least try to match the Z06 and GT500.

That's what I remember saying to myself when looking up the engine specs on a Viper once. Was expecting a 400+kw output from that displacement.

The US of A have some nice cars... that's for sure. Would love to hop in a Viper / Prowler when I visit and go for a spin!

Essentially it was a modified truck engine though, which is probably why it never really made the power levels its capacity should have allowed.

Just imagine how much power the M5's V10 would have made if it was 8.7 litres.
