When your driving about and your at the lights and a dirty old stinkin thumping guzzling V8 rolls up, do you love it..
The old chugga chugga thump of an old school v8, the smell of fuel in the air, whether it be an old 351, an old 360 chrysler, old holden 308 motors. Old F series trucks even. Nothing efficient about them, drinking fuel like no tomorrow and low performance for todays standards. You know that even a new camry will bolt away from them but you still love them.. Be on the lookout for them and post up pics.. I saw a dirty old Leyland P76 the other day.. Last edited by RAPID_BA; 02-08-2012 at 01:33 PM. |

I love P76's!
I still want one...one day...but they always make me think of "Marine Boy"... I miss my old 351 Cleveland in my ambo. My dad always said V8's are really designed to run efficently when hot/ under load. When it was towing horse floats I got better fuel economy than my familys 6 cyl ED falcon |

I'll look at any v8 doesn't matter what make. I always check out this brown xc 302 station wagon i used to live up the road from, twin straws, clean rumble. Was painted green a couple of years ago, still stock as a rock but i love it.

The best part is when the green brigade in other cars, cover their mouths and pull their windows up, so they don't have to smell the fresh air coming out of an exhaust of an old clunker V8.

Just finished the twin 2" exhaust system on the 253 in our old WB ute we've been doing up. It's just got a mild cam and 350 Holley and extractors, and I know it probably makes only a little more power than a new Toyota Corolla and use more fuel than any modern V8 half as big again, but that sound!
I sit in it and listen to that engine, behind a retro three spoke chrome SAAS wheel and looking at the GTS dash, and keep hearing Sammy Hagars "I Can't Drive 55" playing in my head... Of course the tiny little air cleaner has gone...I've put a nice big chrome one in there now. Maybe later track down a large triangular Ram Flo foam element one, but it will do for now. Friends of the family had a P76 manual V8, and by christ it was a good car. Still the only production vehicle that you can lie a 44 gallon drum down in the boot and close the lid... yeah i love v8's especially the old growlers from the 50's-80's absolute classics, my favourites would be the old 70's aussie/merican muscle cars like the mustang, xbgt and kingswood

The clevo is the like the ambassador for old stinkin thumping guzzling V8s. Still a formidable engine even by todays standards probably the king of NA engines for raw brute horsepower.

At the end it sounded great, yes, but "powerful"? Hardly. Those glory days were long behind it unfortunately. Some people scoff and say "Oh, but at that time they changed the way they measured power...they left all the ancillaries on it with a full exhaust system". I'd say not "different", but "realistic"...your street car isn't run with an engine fitted without air cleaner, water pump, alternator, exhaust system, or gearbox... Still a great engine, but hardly the be-all and end-all, given what we have available today. |

Starting mine in the morning probably cancels out around 30 Priuses & destorys about an acre of the Amazon per minute...

Heres a stinking V8, this thing makes tears stream down your face when you stand near it. 351 Clevo with 600 Holley. Gets about 30 litres per hundred round town lol

If its pictures of a V8 your asking for then heres one all on its own
Hard to believe something as basic and primitive as this, 40 years behind in technology can pump out out more horsepower than the supercharged fpv gt. No efi, computers or sensors just the one cam and flimsy old pushrods. Hail the clevo king of the V8s

I know it's not exactly old school, but it's still a grumpy V8 that goes chugga chugga. And it's definitely dirty, old and stinkin'. Our beaten up old 1993 Land Rover Discovery 3.5L V8. She had 115kw brand new, and probably gets 30L/100km. But it's got straight through pipes. And boy does it rumble. It certainly surprises a few people when it chugs along past them...
