Still amazed at how this went on. Kinda makes me laugh, as bad as it is though.

It was ONLY $2million - barely noticeable when you're making a $152.8million loss after Government handouts.

The term is 'Lizzabefian', not 'elizzabeffs'. I know, I am one, born and bread 400m from the front door of GMH...which probably explains a fair bit now I think about it, lol. |

I wonder how many were repaired under warranty for piston slap and oil usage....
If GM never noticed them gone, maybe they never noticed them back in other cars either.... |

No, was widespread through Holden sites.
Complete cars driven through holes in fence cut at Fisherman's Bend & the truckies delivering cars out of Dandenong in the old days used to smuggle gearboxes in their rope/chain lockers on the car trailers. Been going on for years & just took the Elizabetheans a while to join the party. |

I was involved with Holden at Fishermans bend from 2000 to 2004 and during this time I saw and was told about a number of thefts Just before 5.0 litre was replaced with the LS1 they had 6 engines shiped from the states for testing Within 24 hours of their arrival 3 of the engines had the heads stolen The HR manager told me a story of how a manager was stealing heads from the old 5.0 engine If you park your car in the plant the boot is checked by security on the way out This guy had a large 4 wheel drive and he welded brackets in the engine bay and smuggled 4 heads out of the plant at a time As the boot is the only compartment checked he would simply dive though without a worry until he was dobbed in and caught by security at the guard house They recon he was doing it for years Even corruption at the highest levels The director of engine operations was dismissed as he was getting a number of kick backs from the sale of aluminium swarf I mean how greedy can you get This guy woud have been earning a bomb but for some its never enough |

621 tyres in one hit! Todd Motors (Hillman, Chrysler, Mitsubishi) in NZ - it was the security guards. Not to mention the parts and panels they were getting for the son's body shop.

Any thefts of this scale at Ford? I would like to believe that the difference is that Falcons and Teritories are built with pride, unlike the cars from Team Red.

I would argue that the real cost of the items arnt anywhere near 2 million.
140 engines and 175 gearboxes, thats just under $6500 for each item... It wouldnt have cost Holden anywhere near that.

Having spent many a night charging on with people who worked there back in the 80's and 90's and listening to the stories it was a free for all. If you had the right connections it wasn't uncommon for executives to leave with lots of goodies thrown in. A good mate of mine convinced the gate staff to let him out with a brand new white VP berlina in 91 before they were released to the public. They would to let staff take cars home for evaluation, a maximum of 100k's was allowed and no passengers. He missed his spot on the list as he was off sick, so he basically drove straight out the gate with one the next night. He picked me up and we went cruising until we got pinched by a local sergeant and the **** hit the fan. They agreed to withdraw charges if he resigned which he did. |

Yep, Mid-eighties when engines from Geelong were trucked to Campbellfield without engine numbers many went missing. Ford switched to stamping the engine number at Geelong before they were loaded on the truck.

I know of one guy that used to make deliveries from the engine plant to the old PD centre. He would load the company car up with parts, take a small detour to his house and unload it and then complete the journey.
Many a Tickford 5.0 Windsor part was pilfered. But I don't know how he got past the security gate boot check. He must have stashed the parts somewhere. |
