Default Goodwood FoS '14

I havent made the trip for this event yet but its certainly on the bucket list.

I was skipping through some pics today and noticed this one snapped of what looks like the ol' Green Eyed Monster!

The range of cars at that event blows my mind, anyone been?

Pic of the AU in this link...

http://www.speedhunters.com/2014/07/...s-and-far-away

Wonder if its the real deal?

The festival of speed and the revival are magnificent events. Massive compared to anything we see here due to the sheer population and passion. The visitor carpark of the revival was as exciting as the event for the number of rare and amazing old cars, more of them than the largest Australian car show Ive seen
The revival has so many patrons dressed in period costume and the constant circling of spitfires, mustangs and the battle of britain memorial flight.
The whole event is a must see but be prepared to stand in queues just to get around.
One thing I like about aussie car shows is the variety of mods and restorations. at the all ford or classic ford days over there you can have 20 identically modded, stunning, but identical escorts, here they are all different but there is only 3 of them.

This is awesome, inspires me to take my falcon to the US to race it on tracks but the whole LHD thing is putting me off.

Not as hard as you think, probably twice as costly as you think though.

nO LOOKS POSSIBLE

Those imported by nonresidents for personal use not exceeding one year. The vehicle must be exported at the end of that year - there are no exceptions or extensions.

AND

Motorists visiting the United States as tourists from countries that have ratified the Convention on International Road Traffic of 1949 may drive in the U.S. for one year with their own national license plates (registration tags) on their own national license plates (registration tags) on their cars and with their own personal drivers' licenses.

On my bucket list for Europe along with LeMans. Both of which I have convinced the mrs that we'll be attending on our Euro trip in two years.

For me watching Kenny Brack slide and hammer Adrian Newey's GT40 around the circuit last year has to be the best driving at the event I have seen. Only Nick Heidfeld's ballsy hill climb up the drive way a few years back in the McLaren F1 car comes close.

Kenny Brack

Nick Heidfeld

The Heidfeld one doesn't look anywhere near as butt clenching but look how nervous that McLaren is and how narrow that driveway is.

I like the 1920s Blower Bentleys on wooden spoked wheels and skinny little tyres being slid up the course. Now that is officially awesome. Priceless history being peddled hard, love it.
Goodwood do DVDs of the events too. Got my first one 20 years ago when Wheels or Motor tested the first Lamborghini Diablo and Glorious Goodwood was in a DVD pack for me getting the letter of month, think I wrote something like this... "Fantastic article on the Diablo, 0-100 om 4.3, $613,000.. Awesome stuff... Then I went to the shops for a loaf of bread on my $14,000 Suzuki did 0-100 in 2.8 seconds and got 40mpg."

That Brack video in the GT40 reminded me of when I had the more recent iteration of the car for a few days, the Ford GT with the supercharged 5.4.... Watching him drive reminded me of trying to drive that on the street, it would turn the tyres everywhere, all 315mm of them even in fourth, in fact I have what is left of those rear tyres up the shed as a memento :-) That was standard supercar Ford GT, no electronics or anything like that, just old school brutality in a light shell, I hazard to think what percentage of them have been put in to the bushes, really quite a crazy car to drive.

I went actually, on the Saturday. Was one of those things you have to do. Was like a motorshow, but with racetracks! Loved the WRC cars and group b rally cars on the forest rally stage! Also was keen on seeing the mclaren p1, the laFerrari, the Porsche 918, as well as the f1 cars, lemans cars etc etc on the hillclimb! There was far too much to see in one day.

My favourite bits were seeing Seb Loeb driving his pikes peak 208 up the track! That's the maddest thing ever!
If you are keen, on YouTube they have the whole event available to watch, 10 hours a day! And it's worth watching all the priceless old Grand Prix cars etc! And yes there was Lowndes falcon, Wayne Gardner riding a Rossi Ducati, jamiraquai In his 4 day old green laFerrari, et etc!
I took some photos, I'll put some up.
definitely a bucket list item! Loved it!
Out of interest I'm in Geneva at the moment for a few months, I flew to gatwick, hired a car, driver there 1 hour, had the day, went to Portsmouth for fish and chips at about 9.30pm, drove back to the airport, had a sleep in a rest area for about 5 hours, the. Back on the plane for an early morning flight back! Big day but worth it for sure!

However, driving the nurburgring in track prepared cars would be the top of my bucket list of motoring! Done that too, and the FOS doesn't beat that.

Funny, at the end of the hillclimb in the return assembly area, the Lowndes falcon attempted a powerslide, a bit out of control, over the grass. Not much talent in that car! Unlike some sweet gp cars from the 40s or whenever which did sweet slides as I the picture posted earlier!
