G'day all .
Just wanting to know if there is a difference in physical size from a stock 2L motor to a 2.5 turbo motor ? I'm wanting to have a motor to use for a mock up to go into my XK Falcon Pano , the stock 2Ls are really cheap so would prefer to use one of them to fit up then buy a turbo 2.5L when I have sorted it .. Also are the block to bellhousing the same between the 2 engines.. Cheers Fred |

Definitely a difference in size. As I'm sure you're aware, the Volvo 2.5 out of the XR5T has an extra cylinder. So i'm thinking that the block is physically bigger but don't have exact measurements for you.
If you want to start with the Mazda-Ford 2.0L Duratec, that is a good option, and then you can always upgrade to the 2.3 or 2.5L Duratec engines, either out of the Mondeo 2.3 or Mazda SP23 or SP25. This family of engines are all similar in size, and are basically stroked out versions of the 2L. |

Why not look for a crashed FG Ecoboost to come up at auction?
At least then you'll get a RWD configured motor & box, which will be much easier for a conversion. |

As someone that has owned both, stuff the ecoboost. Throw the 5 banger in it purely for the noise.

XK with a V8 is very tough to get engineered these days.
I like that the OP is thinking out of the box, and wants to do something unique. The Ecoboost are under-rated, and perform well in the heavy FG - so in a much lighter XK, it will be a real surprise packet. |

Plenty of good RWD conversion options for the Duratec 2.0L as well. It is a popular conversion for the Ford Escort, and a lot of Caterham cars also use the Duratec engine in RWD format.

Another manual gearbox option for RWD setup is the manual box out of MX5, specifically the NC model. As long as you use the MX5 flywheel and clutch arrangement, it apparently bolts right up, no custom bellhouse needed.

Cheers Buzz440 but really leaning towards a 2.5T , did you have to make an adaptor plate up to fit the box up or can you buy one ?
That's pretty handy to know DZFord that's the sort of info I'm after . I also didn't know about the Eco Boost engines .. Thanks fellas. |
