"Rusted" trim - warranty issue?

I purchased a new Mondeo in late November and I've been very happy with it.

However, I've noticed that quite a bit of the "chrome" trim around the windows has rust-like spots over it.



They range in size from pin-head size to some marks that are a couple of mm across.

I have my 3,000km complimentary service coming up - am I right in thinking this should be something that is sorted under warranty?

I will point out that the car is a late 2016 build but was purchased brand new (17km on the clock) from a Ford dealer.

Hit the chrome trim pieces with a clay bar before you do anything else.

Never had to do that with my old man's 1971 XY Fairmont. Has technology gone backwards or are we seeing cheap, low grade stainless ?(sarcasm purely intended)

All new Ford passenger vehicles sold in Australia come with a 5 year perforation corrosion warranty.

Repair of corrosion without perforation such as in your case, due to a defect in factory materials or workmanship, will continue to be covered during the term of the Ford Express New Vehicle Warranty.

I doubt you will have a problem claiming it to be fixed under warranty.

is there any spots on the paint ,someone might have grinding nearby,had this with 1 of my cars 3 days after i picked it up from a full bare metal respray was not happy .lucky wasnt hot when the sparks landed and cleaned up ok

Looks like some sort of fallout to me not a manufacturing defect as such. Have a good look, you will most probably find its allover the car.

If its on more than one item, then something has contaminated the car as different parts are made by different companies so a manufacturing defect is highly unlikely. I have seen this before from trains or ships or corrosive materials from an industrial estate or coastal area.

This could have been done prior to delivery or in transit from over seas.

What area are you in and what dealer (area) did you buy it from?

It's why I suggested the clay bar as I've had cars exposed to grinder spray and the clay bar sorted it out.

What area are you in and what dealer (area) did you buy it from?

All imported cars come over the sea, salt is the natural enemy of long term car condition.

I think the company name was JRA in the 1980s with a variety of car importation arrangements.

Late in the life of the company they saved money by bringing Alfas to Australia as deck cargo.

Lucky it didn't affect the quality of that excellent Russian steel they were built with.

Car was purchased in Orange but I am in Canberra.

No sign of any issues with the paint just the trim but I'll run a clay bar over both just to see whether it makes a difference.

If you have some Iron X .... try it over some of the spots and see if the fall-out is removed by it.

Some of the cheap (Chinese) chrome and stainless pieces I've seen in the aftermarket truck bling industry is appalling.

Are the trims plated steel or stainless or chrome plated plastic? Just out of interest, it probably makes no difference, just haven't had a good look at a Mondeo lately
