Awesome cars, a real collector. Would run mid 4s to 100 km/h in 1998, embarrassing many cars (I guess similar to a GR Yaris these days).

They brought 5 into Australia and sold them for $130k each back then, they needed 105 Octane fuel to perform, but would pull hard in any gear (4.444 final drive ratio does that).

Only problem with something like this these days, it would last about 2 nights in Western Sydney before disappearing, you couldn't take it and park it anywhere, parts are rare as, and it costs as much as a (relatively easily replaceable) McLaren. In 2021 I doubt you'd ever see one being enjoyed on the road anywhere.

There is one in Sydney that shows up at st Ives cars and coffee. Show stopper around a lot faster newer cars.

I guess its like a GTHO. Regardless of year, at the time a performer and best of the best for its era. I like it, the original STI 2 door was a gorgeous looking car, iconic.

In 1998 4.7 sec to 100 was and still is pretty quick. I had a quick look and it was faster than a Corvette of the same year..

Very cool car, many of us Gran Turismo kids now have coin and this is the appeal. I have a steel bumper but I am sorry that market is going to get interesting over the next 5-10 years

The 22B is by far the best WRX ever made.

Now look at how pathetically sad and boring they are. Styling has gone backwards big time.

Same, I am pretty keen to own one just for the experience. Would love to track one but to worried about drivetrain and HJ issues..but what car doesnt have them..but AWD perhaps not quite as fun.

Until it rains while you're driving one, and you think "what wet road?"

MightyCarMods (youtube channel) did a 2 door STI vs a GT86 both had suspension, brakes, tyres and about 200kw atw and the GT86 chopped it every lap by 5+ seconds IIRC. Huge let down as I used to have those rexy's on a bit of a pedestal.

Thats 20 years of development there. Just like a gt xt would kill a Xy gt

Interestingly enough they actually have a flat 6 motor with twin turbos waiting to go into the sti

Despite the later post saying 86 smoked it in that like for like comparo IMO Rex and more so sti are their halo product and it earnt its pedigree backed with the WRC.
A job well done by a Jap company to me, globally has many fans.
Yer in the wet good stuff.
There will always be something like for like quicker but they rate to me.
Even these last ones I considered grabbing one last year but the heyday earlier ones are rippas.

For those after the flat 4 experience you can pick up a librity/legacy for a lot less coin, and spend the rest on mods and easily get 300+HP

My mechanic has what is least a replica in the showroom. Given the rarity I doubt it is a real one but I forgot to ask when I picked up my car

The bloke competes in rallys and is a Subaru specialist so could well be.

All I can say if you want a WRX experience one thing to consider is you need to fork out coin like you wouldn't believe for services to keep it in good condition.

Great cars but it wears thin after a time. I simply can't kill this car, and I'm trying. That's after paying another $800 today

My bad , your quote above. I thought your comment was relating to owning the car in question.

I'm not sold on Subaru - its like Japanese Daewoo with ridiculously expensive servicing and repair costs, they flog out anciliaries like nobodies business, A/C compressors and alternators in particular.

Also seems Volvo drivers are now Subaru drivers - if there's someone going 30km/h under the speed limit its an old Asian bloke in a Subaru whose been unleashed on our single lane country highways
