I've read around several forums and the general consensus I have picked up is, "Chiptorque for autos," because of the speed limiter and shift point changes etc or a Unichip if you have that bit of extra cash.
Now the questions: For a 6 cyl Falcon, T5 and cam - just the usual sort of stuff... What is the best option? What benefits do some chips have over others? ie. Wolf 3D v4 Plus, Unichip, Chiptorque. Which one has the flexibility for future upgrades? ie. if I was to go forced one day. How flexible are they getting tuned? What does it usually cost for a supply and tune? I have read $1300 for the Unichip, but I'm quite interested in the price of tuning a Wolf and how it'd perform against a Unichip. What benefits could one expect (better power curve, better economy etc)? The Capa "edit" (using the term loosely) seems like a long way away, and who knows if it will ever be released. Any help for a n00b re. chips is appreciated

This thread may help a bit, i know the chiptorques the cheapest of the lot.
Unichips roughly $1250 fitted and tuned. the advantage of a full aftermarket ECU is that it can be tuned by anyone, unlike the chiptorque or unichip that need specific dealers to do it. hxxp://www.fordmods.com/forums/viewt...t=7314&start=0

I've priced a Wolf3D Plus at appx. $1300, and another $600-1000 for tuning. That's getting bloody expensive!! A Unichip fitted and tuned for $1300 is much more inviting (price wise)....
If only I can find a second hand Unichip or Wolf3D :(

EMS stingers are slightly cheaper alternative to a wolf. Ive had quotes for $1600 fitted and tuned compared to $1300 for unichip. IMHO - Unichips are WAY overpriced for what they are.

The ol' crate has a Wolf 3D with hand controller, and I paid just under $2400. That includes tuning as well. It makes a HUGE difference, and the tunability is incredible. Definitely worth the cash. But then unless you've got a lot of engine mods its probably not that necessary.

Ahhh cheers, that's what I was unclear about.
I might aim for the Wolf3D, sounds like it will have huge potential.

In my experiences, the factory computer is a bloody good bit of gear that will make its way aroung a uni-chip and or powerchip. Have a look at the cars I have and see if I havent tried.
In my opinion, you are tearing up $50 notes for no reason at all installing these useless bits of crap. Get a stand alone computer and reap the reward of unlimited tunability and good consistant power. Just out of interest, with uni chip or chiptorque, ask them for a written guarantee for 24 months, or even 12 that states the car will not lose power, and need re-tuning and see what sort of dribble they come up with. It shows you how confident they are in the product they sell |

And there is no way the computer can learn around a chiptorque either as it changes the maps - its basically and edit.

Id spend the extra $$ on a standalone... Not saying unichips and chiptorques are crap, because they are far from it, but just incase you decide to go boost, or want to do some home tuning a standalone is the way to go...
But if you looked around, you can get 2nd hand unichips for $400.. very cheap power really.

Send Rollin a PM and ask him about his A9L and Tweecer he used on his six before the turbo set-up. I know you cant buy it from him as adxr8 has already.
