Question EF changing gear&revving on its own

: hi all i am new here,found you guys by seaching to help my neighbour, he was driving his EF auto yesterday at 100ks & says it suddenly went off revving to 4000 rpm,he thinks it changed down gear by itself.. i checked the wiring to TPS & trans &all seems ok as is throttle cable and spring, we took it for a spin and sure enough at 100k when he let off throttle it continued on as if on cruise cont.no cruise on this car!!! it did not however rev or change gear that time.. any help would be appreciated. thanks Ray..

looks like its limp home mode.. (puts itself into 3rd gear for safety)

check trans fluid??

trans may need a service.

If it is kicking back to 3rd or 2nd by itself then it could be the inhibitor switch.
Mine was doing the same thing and it ended up being the inhibitor switch.

: just a short note of thanks, while i was away mike took his car to automasters & they serviced his tranny&fitted an inhibitor switch?. i think, anyway all is well and works properly again cheers Ray...
