G'day all,
The plan is to keep to this one thread for this topic, as it was getting to be a bit of a mess previously. First a bit of a summary of what is going on. The EA Fairmont Ghia was my first car 4-and-a-bit years ago when I got my Ps and was still learning to drive :p. It later taught me to drive manual after a T5 was put in, plus I learned a lot about basic mechanics. The best part was the small web page I made about the car sparking a revolution which came to be known as the E Series Club. With it no longer a daily driver, last year I decided to get serious about modifying it, and I collected various parts such as a low km AU 4.0 Intech motor with ancilliaries, an EL automatic, a large Mitsubishi turbocharger capable of 30+ psi, intercooler, blow-off valve, a large wastegate imported from the US, 30 psi boost gauge, oil catch can and a GRA throttle body as I plan to put the car on straight gas. Just for fun, I have also decided to temporarily downgrade the exterior (which was a combination of EA Ghia, EA SVO and ED parts) to make it a white CFI EA Falcon GL replica on the outside. All parts (grey bumpers, garnish, mouldings, 14" wheels with hubcaps etc) are collected and some are installed. Unfortunately the latest update isn't very good. After deciding to replace the front main transmission seal, I have found that the original part is not readily available from Ford. I tried Repco today yet again today and they have advised that they can only supply the extension housing seal. When this silly piece of rubber is sorted out, I'll be free to organise a mod day at my place to install the new engine and transmission. When the car is running, it will be heading to GRA for the gas conversion, then to Rank Rotary for the turbo part installation. I'll keep everyone updated. |

I should've charged a referral fee :p
It seems to all be coming along nicely, have you got the bracket for the trans tunnel yet?

Sunny thought I was asking the wrong way but this time I went in with a piece of paper and exactly what he told me to ask for written on it. Still no good.
Still waiting on Dellboy for news on the transmission bracket, but the main priority at this stage is just getting everything installed. |

Good to hear everything is coming along Jack.
I can't beleive that Ford don't stock the seal, surely they must be a fairly sought after item. I can't wait to see the final product!! I would love to see the look on a Gen IV driver's face when he gets smoked by a stocky EA!! Hehehehe.

nice history there jack, brings a tear to the eye*sniffle sniffle*
gotta agree on the "many different threads being messy" part..... mining to keep it 1 thread from start to finish is a good idea  make sure you keep us fully up to date on the project, and i want to be in the car in CFi trim the day it smokes a LS1 |

Good work Jack, can i ask, what is this obsession of late for people to turn their upscale models to looking like a GL? I just dont get it.

Dude next time I go down to Repco, I'll ask for you. I had to buy 3 of those seals, and each time I went in I had absolutely no problem apart from availability.

Sunny, please do that as this situation is getting ridiculous. I will try Bursons today and the next step is a tranny specialist.
I'm surprised people don't get the GL thing. This is the most extreme form of understatement (read sleeper) that is possible with this model, or probably any model for that matter. I'll keep everyone posted. Once these minor bugs are sorted things will move swiftly, as it is a priority now. needturbo, I don't have the specs readily available and I'd probably have to contact Mitsubishi to find out. But it's certainly going to be running to only a fraction of its potential to avoid blowing the Intech. |

Good luck with traction with the 14's. I was spinning them at 100km/hr in the return lane at heathcote.

It is possible to get wider 14s I think, but traction is the least of my worries now.

I think you can get stocky wheels widened or something can't you? They must cut them in half and weld a strip in the middle of them or something.

some performance places sell them pre-widened.

Gotta remember trouty=troutman. You're getting me confused!
Sounds like it's all coming along, I hope you're keeping the ghia interior though, any GL interior is worse... trust me. Ghia=comfort inside. I think the grey bumpers and hubcaps are what makes it the real sleeper. That seal has me buggered though... are you after the rear main engine seal, or some weird-*** input shaft seal on the tranny? |

The thing is Jack, who would 'try' and race a EA GL? If I would line up against you not knowing what you had under the hood why would I try? I doubt the chance of lining up again at the next set of lights...that shit rarely ever happens.
People only try and race cars that actually 'look' fast, yours doesn't! Sundeep |

Sometimes they do. A lot of time they dont though. It gets pretty depressing.

The other day I had a gen 3 monaro with 2 guys no older than me driving and I was stalling it up and making all the right moves. They wouldnt have a bar of running. They launched hard off the lights when I wasnt next to them then they got soft when I was. My mates and I were very disappointed.
