That's a very confusing question, but I think the answer is no.
I changed to an MPFI dizzy when I did my conversion, but it's mounted in the CFI position. There are many who haven't changed, and had no problems. The only difference is that the mpfi has a little cut out in the pip rotor for the pip signal so the ecu can tell when the engine is at tdc. What that actually does, I'm not sure. Your dizzy will affect your power if the timing isn't set properly, but that's about it... |

my old wagon wouldn't run 100% with multi point until i changed the dizzy over. That's why Brendan's probably saying that that. Cause we realised that when we changed mine over.

What that cut out does is fires the correct group of injectors at the right time. CFI it doesnt matter, the injectrs are common to all cylinders. MPI it does matter

If u set the tune with the CFI dizzy correctly, your car should be fine.

I have done the MPFI conversion without changing the dizzy and the car is running like a dog! Been like that for a few months now lol. The timing mark is sitting WAY advanced but and the car pings alot, but if I back it off to 10deg in self-test mode, it won't run. It's also backfiring a lot and has a huge flat spot. The timing is just sitting static on the one mark, I've tried 2 different ECU's, triple checked the wiring, changed injectors, changed various sensors etc so all I can put it down to is the CFI dizzy, just have to get off my *** and find an MPFI one to try.

AUII Forte: If you take out your dizzy you can actually modify it to become an MPI dizzy. All you need to do is punch out the pin on the drive cog, slide the whole shaft and cutter bar out and then file down the correct vane.I did have the measurments from when I did mine but since lost them hehe.

I was thinking about doing that, but I I've decided to wait and just by a brand spankers new one. Assuming the dizzy is the original, it has 320,000k's on it, so I though that it's probably not even worth stuffing round with.
