Default Optional Leather Steering Wheel - Opinions

I was strolling through my local dealer the other day, as one does, and I noticed the optional leather steering wheel on some cars.

As far as I know its an option on all cars; and standard on the GTP. Before I say what I think, I was wondering if you guys have optioned it up and why?

To make sure we are all on track with the same wheel (edit: look at shockwaves) pic below. It is the one with the extra palm "extensions" at 2 and 10 o'clock, aswell as 4 and 8 o'clock.

That one theres a Momo Wheel which is different to the Sports Steering wheel AKA FPV wheel.. Very rarely do you see many sold with that wheel as it bascially feels the same as the stard XR wheel.

I have the FPV wheel as I like the thicker steering wheel, and i have attached a picture.

I hate the steering wheel with the fat lumps on it (ie: MOMO one). Worst idea ever. Give me a normal wheel any day thanks.

Yes, you can fit them to any BA, and i think they're about $295 when optioned with the car at the time of placing the order. I dont know how much they are if you went to a dealer afterwards and wanted one.

A leather steering wheel for a Focus is $400 : .

Yes, I've tried to get a comfortable grip on the thing at the last Motor Show in Sydney.. and couldn't. The lumps are all weird and.. well, I don't like it. Sat in an XT BA with the normal steering wheel and it was great.

The FPV wheel is $695 when placing an order for a car. IMO they are awesome, they are so much better than the standard and XR wheels.

Let me tell you that the leather gear knob for my Fairmont Ghia retails at the local dealer for $350, so I told them to belt it, so I would hate to think what a leather steering wheel would cost

Trust me Steffo, when you get the chance to drive one of these cars fitted with the FVP steering wheel you will like it,especially when on winding roads feels great to hold on to.
Cheers John

Totally agree mate. If and when I get a BA, one of those wheels will be going on straight away.

lol @ Fordfan

The FPV wheels are the way to go. The momos aren't bad, but they're just XR6 wheels with different colour leather on em

great responses guys!

I agree with those who like it. You just feel like your more in command, the palm "extensions" are great and the feel is excellent.

Pricing option yes, but worth it IMO.

we optioned for the FPV one on our XR6T, and so glad that we did. it is so nice to drive with, much better than the standard one. if anyone is thinking of getting one, order it with the car from factory, cos i think from memory they are something crazy like $1300 from spare parts.
