Red face Wierd Flatspot

Hey Guys,

Im having a kinda "Flat Spot" problem at the moment.
Ive mainly noticed this when Im doing 80kph or faster.
While im cruising along at 80kph say, The car's RPM is just above 1500. Unless I push down quite far to kickback the auto, It sticks at 1500rpm or so? :

When It does this, it sounds like it wants to rev higher but somethings restricting it? Its mainly ever since ive put a 91DA MPFI manifold as it only occasionally did it with the 87DA manifold on.

The Other bit is when i first start driving, The car has good acceleration, etc but after a while it becomes guttless as hell, but if i stop at the shops for example and turn the car off, get out, etc, etc and 5mins later start it, its got power again?

Now Im thinking its Spark or Fuel. My Fuel pump is kinda noisy compaired to most as its got a humm to it that can be heard in the car if the stereo isnt on.

im thinking your TPS on the new manifold is ****ed, or you damaged the connector or the sensor during the manifold swap.

You sure the torque convertor isn't locking up? They lock up at about 80km/h and above and won't unlock until you put your foot down a bit.

The car is running in Economy mode I might add, as I dont use powermode that much since there appears to be a 1sec delay between it changing gears when I take my foot off the accelerator

Yeah that's what I was going to say, that's definitely the problem. I'd be looking at the TPS first, as it probably isn't detecting the minor changes in throttle position, so it can unlock the converter or whatever.

Ive checked the TPS out, and its working fine according to the reading the multimeter is showing me.

The main problem is this...
While cruising along at 80kph @ 1600rpm or so, and push on the accelerator the Revs drop to 1500rpm and only very very slowy speeds up. Ive noticed in Power mode, the car does this but like 2sec after the revs drop down, it kicks up to 3rd and sits at 2000RPM.

any thoughts?

Checked for any vaccuum leaks from and to the throttle body? Make sure the hose clamps are nice and tight.

Another wack theory could be your engine mounts. Check the conditions of these as mine had deteriorated from the oil leaks on to the rubber bits and constant vibration. I replaced both on my ea (bastard of a job w/o removing the engine) and it felt smoother on idle and take off. The engine looked like it sat there better and there were much less flat spots than what I'd felt before.

Deffinately sounds like the convertor is locking up, don't know what causes it do do it at the wrong time. My EF is hopeless in Economy, driving along at 60 it'll lock the convertor in 3rd then realise the car is labouring then unlock it.

I always drive in Power mode, purely for the fact it holds gears longer and is a lot more responsive. Driving in Economy makes it like driving a big wet sponge, you press the accelerator and nothing bloody happens unless you floor it.
