Default Wideband O2 Sensor

hey guys, lately i've been mucking around with the electronics side of things trying to build a few useful kits so we can tune up Sunny's turbo without having to spend $$$ on the dyno. One of the kits was a Jaycar DFA (Digital Fuel Adjuster) which I think may be a bit useless on a Falcon 6 cause they don't have air flow meters. I'm still looking into whether I can use it on the MAP sensor or ACT to make a difference to fuelling.....

Anyway, the other thing I've put together is a Wideband O2 sensor. I got it working tonight and this thing rocks! Basically what it does is measure in real time the true oxygen level in the exhaust and displays that as well as a bunch of other useful stuff on a laptop that you have hooked to it in the car. Dan bought over his laptop and after calibrating the sensor, we plugged it into the exhaust stream and also rigged up a tacho wire so we could graph Air/Fuel ratio Vs RPM. I took the car for a quick spin (didn't have much juice) and it's awesome. You get a big display of the real-time AF ratio in the top left of the screen and then a running graph down the bottom. The RPM as well as anything else you want to hook up (TPS sensor etc) is displayed in the right of the screen. I still have to see if there is a way to hook up a boost gauge so you can compare Boost level to the RPM and AF ratio.

It's gonna be an awesome tuning tool, especially for Sunny's car where he has extra injectors in the throttle body. This will allow us to see on the graph what RPM it's leaning out and pinging at then we can adjust the extra injectors to get the correct A/F ratio.

If anyones interested the website is www.wbo2.com and it's the 2A0 kit. They are pretty pricy for the pre-built ones. I bought the DIY kit and sensor and it came to just over $300 which is like half price.

thats a damn good price. What would be fantastic is running a car on a dyno and compare this wideband to a known accurate meter

Awesome work Doug ;)
looks like what u said was the issue.
i knew there was a genuine reason we couldn't flash the POS!
did it by itself or with the other oxy sensor aswell?

Last night we just removed the other oxy sensor and put this one in its place, it looks like it will be a good tuning tool once we figure out how to get more input options, especially boost.

Sounds good. I'm keen to see how the tuning on Sunny's car goes now.

I've been looking at those exact kits for similar reasons. Thanks for the comments; it's good to get independent feedback.

That's great matey!

I knew you'd get it working somehow. I might have to pitch in some cash now _

I am very interested in this... would love to see it in action.
The jaycar dfa won't work off the map sensor, apparently, because the map sensor is a wave output (as opposed to a constant voltage or resistance)
The act or coolant temp sensors could work though, make the car think it is hotter or colder as appropriate. Hotter in my case, I want the car to run leaner.
Let us know how you go, we may need to purchase one.

Doug, the Digital Fuel Adjuster wont work with a Map sensor.
:(

yeah the MAP has a frequency output i found out so it's useless for that...unless i could get another kit that could somehow convert the freq to a voltage then back to a freq....dunno if that's possible. I might just hook it to the ACT sensor to make the car think it's running cold in the higher revs...see if that makes a difference to fuelling. BTW Sunny, I realised it's useless hooking it to the TPS cause you can achieve the same results just by pressing the accelerator a bit more.

only thing is the ect sensor also adjusts the timing, i would think
hotter=retards timing, colder=advances timing. it could very possibly be the other way around, im just going by "the hotter a motor is the more likely it will ping".
i would like to be able to use one on the act sensor to advance timing where necessary but i dont know whether it will richen or lean fuel? anyone know? i might have to start another thread....

That's where the wideband sensor comes in ;)
