Default clutch fan v thermos

as title says i have my motor out and when i put it back in i want to know whether to go thermos or not. i dont want to kill my battery as i heard can happen and i also dont want my car overheating when warming tyres up at drags which i heard thermos are bad for as the only come on at certain points where as clutch fan stays on most of the time and will keep air flow coming better. will thermo fans do much for responsiveness or power and fuel economy.
cheers josh.

wel.. ive had both....
id say go th thermos man...
1. no shitty loud *** fan noiske when ya car is cold...
2. makes a big difference to responsivness/econemy when fan is in full swing... (hot day aircon on.... or at 1st start up)
3. if thermos made ya car over heat when ya did standstills... every car on this forum from ef onwards would be dead =P lol
4. if ya battery would die... again every car from ef onwards would hav dead batteries =P

just make sure u set up the thermo switch to come on at the right temp. and ur set!

just keep the clutch fan if the noise doesn't bother you.

how long are you planning to sit on the skid pad for? if worried about that you could also wire in a switch to enable you to overide the thermo switch and run them.

thermo's all the way IMHO lot less drag on the motor and alot quieter.

When I put AU thermos in my last EA it made a noticeable difference. Its way better, this discussion as be done to death but there is a definite power difference, no matter how small.

Not only that your car wont sound like a hover-craft.

I didn't notice any power difference on the Fairlane. But it sounds better.

Maybe "power" isn't the right term, but it certainly feels freer; which must equate to some kind of power gain no matter how small.

I noticed no power or economy difference really. Only the noise factor. I very rarely heard the clutch fan, but now I hear this loud noise everytime I sit at the lights.

Cools better in my NB and they last longer than clutch fans (average life 2 years) but in the height of summer in WA with aircon on max and all the Fairlane goodies running I do get a flat battery.

Thermo's man, I have taken tooooo long to put these onto my car, and they work a treat. I have since taken the Davies Craig switch off and put a more 'factory' look switch in the thermostat housing. The car will be more responsive, considering it doesnt have to spin a spring/viscous fan, and I can tell you the temp range for them to come on is 95°C ON - 90°C OFF. This is just under half when they come on, and they go down to just above 1/4 which takes 30 seconds to acheive this.

Wiring is simple and the EF fans are very reliable. Go For It!.

Please also see my other post - EB - Thermo fan Conversion Success.

Cheers

unless you are planning to pop the tyres doing a skid at the drags, you wont have any problems. if it does get hot doing a little skid, maybe your radiator is shagged, or you have cooling problems. i took the radiator out of my little brothers car on the weekend when fitting thermos, and it would have been at least 1/4 blocked with **** between the ac condensor and the radiator.

i cleaned the radiator, and got most of the **** out between the fins. also fitted a cooler thermostat. i have been driving it around with no fans at all, and its even cooler than what it was with the fans on 100% of the time.

thermos are the way to go. i never had any problems with low voltage. if your battery dies with thermos, it was on its way out anyway.

I drove Rollins car for 2 odd hours, with stereo pumping, A/C, etc on a warm December day, no dramas... with a 75amp alternator. The voltage gauge was dipping to 10v quite regularly...

Thats what everyone does set them at mate, when they reach under half, the fans take the temp back to about 1/4. Like I said the IDEAL temp range is 95°C ON - 90°C OFF. When your driving, they will never come on, unless your towing up a hill, or you have major probs with your cooling system. My gauge stays just over 1/4 while cruising. Only just reaches under half when stopped in traffic, then fans come on, 30 secs later, all is cool - literally!.

Conversion cost less than $200

Cheers
