Not true as Holden is building over 600 V6 engines per day. Although a lot of these engines are exported, a large number are also fiitted to VEs.

Not surprised HSV is selling like that, They not only got the straight line speed but now they got the handling they always wanted too go with that speed.

Saw a GTS driving the opposite way a week or so ago, and i can see why they're selling. They look alot better in the flesh and just have that overall musclecar stance, i just couldnt stop smiling. And im sure its V8 donk match's its looks aswell. Couldnt say the same for FPV sorry, unless we're talkin about the F6 of course.

When the First FPV's came out my mate who is big holden we both stopped and looked at a FPV ute bonnet bulge and all and he was the first too say **** that looks mean as. The new E -series has that same front on look, Stuff some monaro vents on the bonnet

Neither am I. It goes to show V8s will always sell if the complete package is presented.

Having said that HSV do have a very strong loyalty base of repeat custom. The appeal of such a new model was always going to show this sort of initial return.

The real test of strength will be about March 07 on.

I must say though that some dealers are struggling with the trade values of European cars. It’s like they haven't seen some of these cars before and are offering some rather ridiculous whole sale values. As good as the performance might be they seemingly have lost some business due to dealerships not being ready for the European consumer.

This is true. Happens all the time as manufacturers give dealers big incentives to register new models as demos.

Yes indeed Ian, but one thing that can't be forgotten is that consumers are the ones who ultimately decide the trade in prices.

Well here is one example why people should be buying cars from Ratt. In the last two months he is the first salesman I have come across that has actually got this right.

The market determines the price and the reasonable punters realise the dealerships need to see a return for their effort. However this is where it has gone slightly wrong for some prospective HSV owners.

There are some unknowns and tricks in this, especially on the dealership side but it would appear that the wholesalers are low balling enquiries coming from the Holden network. It could be a genuine reaction in the market to the climatic condition but it’s more likely a fact that the luxury end of the market isn’t hit as hard as the other sectors while ever you shop within that market. Try to step outside the segment and a bigger correction takes place.

That’s my uneducated take on what has happened. Someone who actually works in the industry might have a more accurate appraisal.

Very true. I think I've seen just as many VE's around in B'go as I have Mitsubishi 380's. Considering the 380 was released last year and the VE only recently, not looking good for Mitsu.

Holden Commodore was the top selling car last month with 5,455 , then

Ford 8,691

Corolla camry and yaris? people like 4 wheel whitegoods, look out when aurion comes on stream..

When was the last time if ever that the Falcon was outsold by the Camry?
I think the Aurion is going to lay the smackdown evern worse :(

That's not going to be a real set of numbers. BF2 launch woud have slowed BF1 sales massively - everyone hoping that the prices would come down. New Camry figures would spike briefly as they weren't really recorded last month - probably some rental car/fleet figures beafing that up. The Commodore figures are probably right now that VE's been selling for a little while. Not sure what happened to the Mazda 3. That was looking like it was going to overtake the Falcon for a while.

Motor vehicle sales bounce back
November 3, 2006 - 3:27PM

Sales of new cars and trucks in Australia rose five per cent in October, as the industry bounced back from a mid-year slump.

In its VFACTS sales bulletin, the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) said 79,930 vehicles were sold last month compared to 76,118 in October last year.

The result took total sales for the year to 802,306, 2.8 per cent below the year-to-date figure at the same time in 2005.

But FCAI chief executive Peter Sturrock said confidence was rising and the industry expected to post strong sales in November and December.

"The October result suggests that the motor vehicle market may be pulling out of the slight decline of results in recent months and tallies with our prediction of a stronger fourth quarter following important new model releases," Mr Sturrock said.

"The large car segment is starting to feel the positive effect of the new Holden Commodore and the industry looks forward to the segment receiving a further boost this month when the new Toyota Aurion goes on sale.

"A rise of 11.3 per cent in sports utility vehicle (SUV) sales last month also suggests that some consumers may have set aside their concerns about the petrol price spike that occurred over winter."

The FCAI said its full-year sales forecast remained stable at 970,000 about 15,000 below last year's record result.

But it said sales and marketing efforts by car companies would be intense from now until Christmas.

"Last week's opening of the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney began an intense period of sales and marketing activity running up to Christmas and we believe that November and December sales will be strong," Mr Sturrock said.

Toyota was the top selling company with 18,589 vehicles in October, well ahead of Holden on 12,779 and Ford on 8,691.

Year-to-date Toyota was also showing its rivals no mercy with 175,953 vehicles compared to 122,144 for Holden, the margin ensuring the Melbourne-based manufacturer of market leadership in 2006.

The Holden Commodore was the top selling car last month with 5,455 retailed, well ahead of the 4,906 sold in the same month last year.

After initial concerns the new VE model was not proving as popular with buyers as the company would have liked, Holden said the car had its best monthly result for 2006.

Other top selling vehicles included the Toyota Corolla (3,722), Toyota Camry (3,205), Ford Falcon (2,945), Toyota Yaris (2,858), Mazda 3 (2,585), Hyundai Getz (1,594), Ford Focus (1,584), Holden Astra (1,575) and the Toyota HiLux 4x4 (1,457).

Helps explain the number of dozy drivers on the road nowadays. Anyone who chose a Camry over a Falcon would not know much about cars or driving.

The Hilux is not a car but a truck - why does it keep coming into the car figures? Where is the Territory, its always been in the top 10? And if the Hilux is included are the Holden and Falcon utes included in their figures? Bet not.

I know three work colleagues who are considering a Toyota Aurion for their next company car. Two of them drive Falcons at the moment. Not a good sign.

A shocking month for Ford. It appears that the BF MKII is going to get slaughtered the way the ELII coped it nine years ago. The all new Orion model can't come soon enough. 17 months is a long time.

Most people just want a reliable car to get from A to B. Toyota offers that and has a good reputation.

People who actually care about the mechanics of the cars and the thrill of driving are in the extreme minority.

Ford's local models had an abysmal month. Even at 52 cars per hour Ford are building more then they are selling. If BF MkII does not reverse the trend then 2007 will be very ugly with more job redundancies. Focus is the only star for the imported models and almost outsold the Astra. Overall a poor result as the market grew 5% whereas Ford went in the opposite direction.

As to the dark side.........

Second full month of VE sales. Easily the number one model for the month, best month for 2006 and an improvement over the corresponding month in 2005. However it appears that 7,000+ sales a month are a thing of the past. New Statesman/Caprice models still selling well which goes to show that there is a market for LWB cars if the product is right (hello Ford). For the imported models the Daewoo models are starting to make their presence felt. Captiva makes its debut. Overall a poor result as the market grew 5% whereas Holden went in the opposite direction.

66% of Ford vehicles sold in October 06 are Australian made.
54% of Holden vehicles sold in October 06 are Australian made.


For October 2006 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 64,417 (83.5%)
Diesel - 11,059 (14.3%)
LPG - 1,202 (1.6%)
Hybrid - 435 (0.6%)

Total - 77,113 (2,817 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

For October 2005 the fuel types were as follows:

Petrol - 63,931 (87.2%)
Diesel - 8,731 (11.9%)
LPG - 523 (0.7%)
Hybrid - 128 (0.2%)

Total - 73,313 (2,805 heavy commercial vehicles not included)

Dedicated petrol powered vehicles lost almost 4% of their market share. All non petrol powered segments increased sales compared with October 2005. Hybrid sales increased significantly this month.

Why do we even compare ford sales to GM-h sales, and call GM-h the dark side any more?
Seems now the big enemy is Toyota, who are number one in the market by a long chalk. Perhaps if we aimed at them...

Comparison of the Australian made models (not including exported models) shows that Toyota is in a clear third place:

Ford: Oct 06 - 5,698, 2006 YTD - 66,403
Holden: Oct 06 - 6,892, 2006 YTD - 63,650
Toyota: Oct 06 - 3,548, 2006 YTD - 25,168
Mitsubishi: Oct 06 - 948, 2006 YTD - 11,187

If the export models are added to the above figures then it is Holden just ahead of Toyota, Ford someway back in third place with Mitsubishi a distant fourth. I don't have the exact YTD figures at the time of writing so from memory to the nearest thousand:

Holden: 103,000
Toyota: 90,000
Ford: 73,000
Mitsubishi: 12,000

I tend to agree on that . I'am driving a friends 2000 model Camary at the moment waiting to see what Fords new Falcon car is before I make up my mind. I feel like a accountant in it but its smooth goes well & is more economical than the AU ghia 6cyl I had. Your right People that care about what make or model car the they drive are the minority.

Plus people shop for a car and road test it cruising around town where a Camry wouldn't seem much different from any car. First time they take it on a long trip to the country the truth about the Camry will dawn - though sadly a lot of people who haven't experienced anything better will assume poor ergonomics and doggy handling are normal in a car. I'd rather accept a minor quality compromise and be safe, comfortable and enjoy driving.

I know everybody complains about it but the quality gap is not all that big nowadays (not to say Ford couldn't do much better). Back in late 1970s we looked fo a car for Mother in law and checked out Corolla, Ford Escort, Mazda and Nissan (Datsun). The Escort was by far the best designed car but the build quality was just shocking. You could see how bad it was before you even got in the car. We got the Corolla, boring and awful to drive but well assembled and reliable. The experience put me off Ford for 25 years. Now we've got a Territory. I can see a small quality difference but not enough to outweigh the other huge plusses. Most people don't think the same way though.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I did numerous searches and could not find the figures for November 06??

Surely it wasn't forgotten?! I'd like to know if the VE is keeping it up and how the BF2 is going and all the ussual stuff really..
