Default Clickety click?

Hi guys n gals

When I do a cold start, I get a clickety-clickety kinda noise coming from the motor. After about 30-60 seconds it fades away. When still cold, and I rev the motor, the noise disappears and then occurs again when the revs reach idle level, but only for a couple of seconds usually.

I was guessing maybe an idle bearing as the noise ceases when revved? Or if not that, the time before enough oil reaches the top of the motor?

Although the other day I walked past an el as it started up, and I think I heard the same noise. Is it common? Or serious?

Thanks in advance

My VCT Ghia does the same when cold, usually only for as long as it takes to back out of the driveway, then it goes.

I have no idea what it is, probably something connected to the serpentine belt, ie, tensioner or alternator or one of the powersteering/water/aircon components.

Thats a fat lot of help to you isn't it?

!!!

Might be lifters ... then again it could be a number of things though.

Wtf is an idle bearing, could it be related to a lumpy idler gear hahaha No but seriously man its a low oil pressure, lifter or internal problem which cant be fixed without a rebuild.Exact same thing on my v8 and battens told me only a rebuild will get rid of the noise. My motor runs fine and doesnt burn oil but is friggin noisy at startup, lack of servicing will do it. Just service your car more regularly now and use an additive to quieten it down.well u can do the lifters without a rebuild but they would probably be noisy all the time if it was them.

it could still be lifters, it could also that the w rating of the oil is too thick, try putting engine oil flush through it next time you change the oil, then put some lifter free and tune up in with the new oil and see how it goes

Hehe, I noticed the same on mine when I bought it. I even took it back to dealer and they said it sounded normal, Its a very quiet rattle on mine that clack clacks when you rev and then dissipates. I figure its normal, I've had the car almost 3 years now and the sound is still there and no worse than when I bought it.
