Default 700HP HSV's - The 2009 Corvette - A sign of what we may see in the HSV's top come?

We think that the GM brand have one up on the Boss V8's currently, just wait until they get their hands on the '09 vette engines for the HSV's.

Lutz won’t divulge engine details except to say the displacement of the new powertrain is greater than the pushrod 7.0-liter V-8 in the Z06.

In terms of horsepower, Lutz said: “We’re certainly not going to be at 600 because some of our competition is at 600. So, 600 is a number that is not satisfactory for us. I would say comfortably in excess of 600 is the way I would term it.” As for 700 horses, “that would be a stretch. Tom Stephens (GM’s head of powertrain) would say, ‘maybe in the second year.’”

Which brings us back to our long-held contention the car is packing a 650-horsepower V-8, although we expected it to be a supercharged 6.2-liter with an integrated intake-manifold intercooler. With the lightweight Z06 as a starting point, we expect the Blue Devil will make the sprint from 0 to 60 mph in less than 3.4 seconds.

As for torque expectations, Lutz said he really doesn’t know. “We’re obviously going to have to restrict it because otherwise you get nothing but wheelspin. So those are some of the problems, is how to get power to the ground.”

Lutz: Like developing a new Corvette.

Ah man, reading the headline, I thought HSV were gonna bring the Corvette here. But that engine sounds like alot of horses. Ford better have something to counter this.

Lutz is a bit crazy, but he gets stuff done. Thats one thing I like about GM, atleast they walk when they talk; Ford at the moment just seem content to spin the usual BS.

It makes one wonder what the authorities will do when 700hp production cars under $70k are available straight off the showroom floor. Supercar scare number 2?

Sounds scary, but the thought of 700 odd horsepower, in a Aussie car makes me very happy in pants.

I seem to doubt it will reach 700 hp within the next 5 years.

Especially after the HRT 427 where a limited run of 200, at around 200k in price still never managed to make it off the ground despite 200 cashed up orders due to the too hard basket of meeting the current ADR's.

Saying that I'd like to be pleasantly surprised.

I'd happily park a 'Vette in my driveway... 650-odd horses, bring it on!

Isn't Holden planning to sell 'Vettes here?

I still cant come to terms with the exposed lights. they just don't look right to me look like rx7 series8 indicator lenses.
As for that turbo kit well that's awesome looking......wonder what the price on one of those badboys is?
700 horsepower form the factory is a big ask not just engine but drive line etc, If they didn't get it right warranty would be an issue.
Another thought wouldn't this kill the aftermarket somewhat? I mean what the hell would you need to do to extract more power?

I guess the Veyron has smashed what was previoulsy thought of as a "powerful" factory car, so producst like the Corvette have to respond, whether that will flow down to locally developed holdens is another story. The same reason we don't see BF GTs with GT40 drivelines will likely preclude an aussie built car with this sort of power, but if it makes FOMOCO OZ lift its game then so be it.

The current c6 vette runs very exotic lightweight engine parts from their lemans race program and is costing them a fortune to produce. The next vette is looking at having a "regular" 427 with a blower.....Overall power will be similar or only slightly more. The cost of building them will be greatly reduced.....

Wait to they start putting levies on big cars. I think the average Joe Bloggs will think twice about buying one.
It has to end soon i hope it dont but i can see it coming.

$100k+ for sure.

Remember having a gun engine is one thing, you need all the other bits to go with it aswell.
