Default Never enough gauges!!

I had a crazy idea this morning while going for my daily walk. I want to redesign the centre fascia that ford made.It sux.The shape doesnt allow me to install some more gauges.I want to get oil pressure, oil temp, fuel pressure and wideband air fuel ratio in there.I dont know how to start redesigning it but I am going to start with mdf. I will relocate certain items.I may even keep the bottom half of the dash anfd redesign the top half..see how it goes.

I was thinking of doing a similar sort of thing, just not until they're needed in my car. I was going to put them where the clock currently is, have some pod semi recessed on an angle facing the driver and fibre glass it to make it look the part.

The AU1 facia, isn't all that nice. But i would suggest, using the Xcite Gauge holders in the console. Then making up a similar setup, to go in the pocket below your headunit. Have them, angled towards you. Although, its gonna get pretty cluttered with that many gauges in there.

Here is one.

You can buy a-pillar trims, to suit au falcon, to hold gauges. American Auto's have them, I believe. But they are illegal.

Yes in Victoria they are illegal.

And allso if you mount a gauge anywhere you could hit your head on then it is all-so deemed illegal.

sound like a good idea stav, but wont it be hard to relocate the whole control section? even the vents, unless you want to delete them....

heres my idea...

at least you'll have space for a cd player...

I have to get some gauges yet and get my centre console gauge pod put in the ute yet.

I wouldn't mind a few extra gauges ... mainly:

Volt meter
Trans temp
Oil pressure

Just to start me off ... I have provision for 2 auxilliary gauges ... I am sure I can ount another 1 or 2 gauges elsewhere .... or do what some of the rice boys do ... have them angle mounted on the passenger side in the dash .... but that'd be too far away though.

id like to see sombody make a fibreglass one from the top of the air vent area.. all the way to the gear stick surround

so would be similar to the late model Supra cockpit style dash

Ive used an AUII centre console to mount guages in, still a work in progress but loooks like it will be fine at the end.

The angle of the au dash makes it a pain to install gauges.I dont know exactly how it will turn out but I will think of something.

I might have a better look at my AUII dash ... as it had a flat section on the driver's side of the HVAC controls .. near the A/C and rear demister buttons.
