Default AU III SR Forte Sedan 4dr Auto 4sp 4.0i

Gentleman,

Your opinions please.

As some of you have been aware I have brought a XG ute as second car, which in the end wasnt a best buy.

I need a second vehicle for work and ended up with a ute.

However I have been offered a 2002 AU III SR Forte Sedan 4dr Auto 4sp 4.0i with 178k Kms for 5K.

Pretty straight, will need some tyres later, has 12 months rego.

I have a AU series 1 Fairmont Ghia, so I am undecided if I should buy the series 3 as a second vehicle.

What is a SR series???? It doesnt seem to have much more options than base falcon, yucky wind up windows in the rear. Has cruise control, thats about it. Oh rear spolier and SR badges.

What are peoples thoughts???? Does the AU III seem like a good buy??

This is redbooks values

Prices based on km 80,000 - 130,000
Trade in price guide* $6,800 - $7,900
National average price - private sale* $8,800 - $11,000

Cheers

and

Thanks

I had an SR just in the AU2. Great car.

I would purchase it for 5k, sounds like a good deal to me. K's are getting up there but at 178km's there still alot of life left.

SR had some add on options, I think you covered them all (Cruise, Spoiler, Badges and some had better wheels - Well mine did anyway).

SR's arn't really anything special, but at $5k for a series three, sounds like a bargin depending on condition

condition is good, needs a detail. Has rust on the boot struts.

I will try and post some pics later.

It does have mags.

SR's have nice side skirts, spoiler and better wheels than any stock forte. I reckon the SR wheels are far better than the Futura wheels.

With XR springs, they look really nice, some 225 tyres and they look very nice.

At 5K I reckon it's a good deal.

As for the rear wind up windows, how often do you have people in the back?

Car doesnt have full service history, although I could get it if I wanted too. it has been a company car with the one driver. I know its just had a bit spent on it recently.

I have a 2 yo and I like the idea of electric windows.

I have a series II Fairmont Ghia dash complete with everything, mmm, how hard would that be to fit up? I have the wiring loom, BCM etc

Seems like a good buy to me ntguy.

I bought one the same as that but with 72,300km in January this year as a 2nd car to tow my boat. I got it at auction for $7850, it was a Ford Credit repo. It had no service history and about 3 mos rego. Had a dent in the LH C-pillar that cost me $375 to get fixed. I added a tow bar for $375 and last week I spent $1,000 on it to get EVERTHING serviced/checked as I didn't know its condition and to get a cat-back Redback exhaust fitted. So now it owes me about $10,000.

I took it on an 800km round trip last weekend and it was awesome! I drive Bf Futuras at work and, if I closed my eyes, (I know, not recommended when driving) I would be hard put to tell the difference. I love it. It's starting to assume more of a role than the boat car. It's still got a few cosmetic issues which I'll probably do in time, but I'm happy with the car at my price so yours is great value if it's a good one.

Car is straight and just needs a detail. Its not that dirty, just with a full detail I think it would look smicko.

Interior is straight. It is country car, was in Mackay Queensland.

Only body prob is the boot strut bolts.

I am thinking about getting rid of the AU V8 Ghia and buying this one using it as main car, then still look for ute.

I reckon should get the 6 / 6.5 k fpr Ghia still.

Good purchase I reckon. Not sure I'd buy the other car as a spare though. It's your money of course.

All the best with it.

au3xr6,
Is yours a 2002 model?? Mine has delivery date is 20/7/02. Not sure whats the date on the complaince plate.
You mean yours had the PINK BEM?? I havent looked at mine yet, its under the steering column i think. But I doubt it will have it. I do have a high series BEM spare.
What features did you add??

OK interesting. I will check it out today. I have a complete fairmont dash with BEM, wiring loom etc.

If they have the same BEM I will add the headlight delay etc of it. I had a Fairmont, I never knew what the headlight delay was for or did, didnt seem to make much different if it was on.

Cheers

with regards to wanting rear power windows it is possible that the wiring is there, so all you would need is a set of door cards and rear window regulators. all door cardss are the same. i have checked this out as im doing this to my wagon, i just need to run the wiring
