Great cars mate. I'd kill for that 70 Mustang, or that GT40 replica. You dont know who makes those GT40 replicas by any chance, is it Roaring Forties?

That XR8 Sierra would be a real street weapon. I'd like to be able to afford to pick one up and bring here.

Imagine the arguments you could win over it's authenticity

Spot on..that is basically a Vauxhall Firenza- we had those in the UK when I was young- good cars but the homogolated race specials were something special!

That XR8 is fasinating- I have never seen one before- its a bit of a pointless car as it would have been seriously outperformed by the cossie turbo whale tails- never mind outhandled too.
Nonetheless, I'd really enjoy having one!

This is a great thread- thanks for sharing it with us- at least I know where to go for the next car!! :

Bear in mind that the XR8 predated the Cossie cars by a few years, a few Sapphire Cosworths were brought into SA but most that drove them found them to be very underwhelming.....

great pics ,good to see such a rich car culture in S.A.
about fifteen years ago a mate and i test drove a sierra at a local ford dealer,it looked almost identical to that xr8 but it had a v6 under the bonnet went well , i had an xe spac at the time with a bit of work done to it and performance was about the same , the salesman who showed us the car told us it was a private import from S A

Apparently only about 250 were made between 1986-1988.....that's a rare car indeed but those figs were only through Wikipedia so they may be miles off!
We had a Cossie called an RS500 which was the good one- youre right about the Sapphires- they were not the most exciting machines really!

Have you pics of your Perana? Love them...thats the way a Capri should have been built!

That would be the Sierra XR6, also an SA only special, two differant models, both could exceed 200 km/h. We also had a later XR6 Sierra that was fitted with Lucas Fuel Injection....that was much quicker.

SA used the Essex V6 right up until 1996....by then had been bored out to 3.4 liters...
