Default Brake pads for Slotted Rotors

Hi all,

I've had slotted rotors on my AU for 20,000k's. They brake well however under heavy semi-emergency braking the make a moaning noise and you can feel the slots through the pedal. This is a problem I can't seem to get on top of.

It's not a warped rotor feel, I don't feel anything through the steering wheel either. The braking also deteriorates, it feels if the pads are bouncing off the rotor and i'm getting on & off braking.

I can't find any information on DBA's website about brake pads, i've replaced the pads and still have the same issue. It seems to me that the pads get caught in the slot and are forced out causing the on & off braking. I read somewhere a while back that you can chamfer the leading edge of the pad.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Cheers,

Adrian.

Hmmmmmm.......I was thinking of that, but it feels the like the brakes are fading out. Pedal doesn't go soft.

I think i'll take it to a brake specialist to get it checked out.

Yep, I agree with that assessment.

Take the ABS fuse out and go do the brake test again with the ABS disabled and you'll probably find the pulsating brake peddle will go away, that will confirm it's the ABS cutting in that you feel, ..... and you'll pull up faster too if you've got a well educated right foot and don't lock the brakes up.

Adrian ... if you are not 100% sure ... take it to a trusted brake place and get it checked out.

I have had my RDA slotted rotors and Bendix CT pads in now for 50,000km ... and I have enough pad material left for another 30,000km from what i can see. The only thing I am having issues with now as a leaking master cylinder (time for replacement me thinks).

I also don't have ABS in the ute (but do in the Territory) ... and it takes a hell of a lot to set the ABS off in the Territory (literally have to stand on the brakes bloody hard for it to pulsate).
