I have an AU series 1 with premium sound system which all works fine but I would like to fit a newer unit with MP3 capability etc. I have found a supply of euro mount facia adaptors so it will look the part but I have become really spoilt with the controls on the steering wheel and don't want to sacrifice them. Is there a commercial unit available which has control inputs for Vol up/down and seek which might be integrated with the existing wiring. I have a technical background so wiring etc won't be an issue.

you can buy a device that wires into the current controls and gets tuned into the frequecey of ur remote and thus the steering controls act as if they are working of the remote. it will set you back around the 300 mark though, but item works really well.
Ask at your llocal audio store, i had my ordered through an installer of jbhifi |

I've been quoted anywhere from $150 odd through to $250.
I was considering this for my Sony MP3 install, but went with a hand held remote for $40. All the best with it in any case. GK

I picked one up ( CAT09) for $150 from JB. Took me 15 mins to install in the AU2. The kit will only work( bar Alpine's 2007 head units) if your head unit is remote control compatible. It just converts signals from the steering wheel buttons to a Infra red signal to control the head unit.

yeah thats pretty much what the one i put in my wifes car a while back does. I mounted the infa-red sender just in front of the cup holders in the centre console. I just put a dvd player in my XR8 so the buttons no longer work but at $150 ill go buy one and stick it in its so much easier with the buttons on the steering wheel

Do your speed alert controls still work properly after installing "The Cat"
