Has my Auto Died in the ***????
Ive been having a wierd problem where the car has been holding in gears when downshifting from 2nd to 3rd in POWER MODE 3rd to 4th in ECONOMY MODE i.e Even thou my foot is off the pedal, it holds 3rd and then 2seconds later jumps forward to 4th. Now Tonight while driving home, It decided that 4th gear DIDNT EXIST in POWER or ECONOMY mode... like its a 3 speed? And when I slowed down it slammed hard when going from 3 to 2 to 1 BUT when i take off it shifts smoothly thru all gears BUT again NO 4th gear!!!! Is this something as simple as a Inhibitor switch? Or Some other sensor? Or has my box died and gone to heaven? I hope its not the auto, I do however have the Community 4 speed auto that I believe WAS owned by Sunny then karl, then Joel and now me... Hope its decent if I need it ;) thanks out:

i never owned the auto. I simply sold it for sunny. when joel got it [put in apparently the trans guy told him it was the best ford 4 speed he'd seen. joel was really happy with the box. it might pay you to grab a copy of the workshop manual and read the trans section and grab a multimetre and sest some things. its a bit hard to diagnose over the internet.

Would HONESTLY the difference between running a ED Throttlebody with ED TPS instead of a DUAL TPS EA Throttle body be causing all this?
The ED TPS is simply wired up to the ECU TPS wires AND the TCU TPS wires. It drove around Fine for weeks when i first converted to MPFI

You should try my trans controller, Jase has it currently. He thinks it's the only one he's tried that actually works.

Just put your other throttle body on Mick. Jeezzzuuusss! You're just making shit hard for yourself. I've done the "singly TPS spliced in to the other plug" thingo and it's stuffing up like yours, I get 4th at random. I can't wait to get the ED manifold in and use a dual TPS throttle body. Should run sweet.
P.S other thing you could check is shift linkage but I doubt it, sounds electrical. Sundeep |

good luck unbolting the throttle body. those hex bolts are pretty hard to get to espcially the bottom two.

Tell me about it - the whole piggybacking wires thing is just full of problems - ever since I did my mpfi conversion there have been niggling problems with gear changes - although I'm now running a Ghia auto computer which is magic. But still every so often it pops up a problem. Like, on the way home the other day it felt like it was trying to lock up the torque converter while slowing down - just really bizarre.
The sooner I convert completely to EB 2 engine management the better. Mick: My car did specifically that when the wires for the trans tps weren't connected properly. |

Thought Id post up how its going......
Its all FIXED It turned out it was the EB2/ED throttlebody with the moddified TPS wiring. Doesnt work. Sunny was correct :( lol (after telling me 10 times to do it) MY average has dropped to 14.0 flat even with me booting it everywhere AND the car takes off better.....
