Any one out there have problems with there car that runs duel fuel?
Mine doesnt seem to stop having issues....money every day spent on it. Ford tell me faulty o2 sensor so i replace it, doesnt fix the problem. faulty MAf sensor replace it,injectors stuffed so i put in new ones,new leads new plugs new fuel filter,problem still not fixed..... Problem:- *aggressive idle then all of a sudden it will drop.(gas and fuel) *Surging whilst under acceleration/whilst standing still.(mainly fuel) *lack of power(gas and fuel)(would struggle to spin wheels) *Passenger side bank running constantly rich. Am i better running one fuel or the other? Maybe even rebuild? or maybe even P%$# it off, ive had it with it. Ford cant even tell me why its constantly running rich and they had it for over 24hrs...That will be $$$ but i dont know whats wrong with it..Thanks for coming....Cheers FORD. Firstly, you need to separate the issues into LPG specific issues, and petrol specific issues. The fuel delivery of each is different, and one has nothing to do with the other. I believe you can even run LPG with the MAF disconnected!
Have you replaced (or at least cleaned) the idle speed control motor/valve - also know as the Idle air valve. I would do that first (at least a clean), then do a full reset of the ECU, and see how it goes. If it's no better, and it is worse on petrol, then it has to be something in the fuel delivery system - fuel pump, fuel regulator, fuel filter, etc. If it has an overall lack of power (once the petrol side is fixed and it idles properly), then you need to start looking at valvetrain, or head gaskets, leaking manifold, coil pack etc. As it is a dual fuel car, I would also NOT take it to Ford, but take it to a specialised LPG mechanic - they will have more of an ideas on how to fix any LPG specific issues, and you may find that those same fixes work for the petrol side of things.

I have an XR8 and had heaps of trouble with surging (particularly on cruse control). Idle problems where the car would almost stall and then the revs would increase to the point where the car jumps forward. I told ford about it and they just kept resetting the computer. I have said this in other forums but it turned out to be the alternator and specifically the regulator. My voltage output was not stable and it changed from 12.1 volts to 14.5 volts. This played havoc with the electrics in the car and since putting the new alternator in the car it runs so much better. Put a voltmeter on the battery and rev the motor to about 2 grand and watch the voltage. It should be fairly constant at about the 14 volt level. If it jumps all over the place I would get it fixed.

I just spoke to a mechanic mate who told me that you run a twin exhaust there should be a balance pipe put in as this can cause surging.
Any one heard of this before |

hi how did you go with your problem.
i have almost the same problem with my EF XR8 running rich idle all over the place ect. I have also spend too much money its driving me nuts |

i have the same problem here. im gonna get a tune and hopefully that will fix things but this problem has got me stumped. i reset the computer, cleaned the throttle body, changed all the filters, oils, etc. and it still runs rich and doesnt idle right. sometimes when i first turn it on it will stall on me.
